First trailer for Taskmaster star’s new British comedy
The first trailer for Tim Key’s new British comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island has been unveiled.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the new movie that puts the spotlight on a comedian, previously a contestant on Taskmaster, who takes on the quirky role of Charles, an isolated lottery winner living on a secluded island. His heartfelt aspiration is to reunite his cherished musicians, McGwyer-Mortimer, played by Tom Basden and Carey Mulligan, who have been apart for quite some time.
The dream quickly becomes a reality as his bandmates and ex-lovers agree to perform a private concert at his Wallis Island residence, upon his invitation.
Yet, the lingering disputes between them soon re-emerge, causing Charles to frantically work towards preserving his cherished opportunity.
Or, in a more conversational tone:
Yet, it’s not long before their old disagreements pop up again, making Charles scramble to hold onto his precious job.
In the trailer, Herb McGwyer, portrayed by Basden, makes his way to the island via a boat, but it turns out to be slightly different from what he had anticipated.
Charles, you mentioned there would be a hundred people, but where exactly is this event taking place since it seems we are at a secluded pebble beach?” he inquires.
Charles replies, “I mentioned fewer than a hundred people,” then confesses that he’ll be the sole attendee.
Charles says, “There will be less than one hundred attendees,” and later reveals that it’s just him in the audience.
Troubles escalate for McGwyer as his former partner and bandmate, Nell Mortimer, makes an unanticipated appearance accompanied by her new spouse.
Initially, there were strained relationships between the duo, but it appears that they are reviving their bond as they resume making music together. Will Charles’ performance serve to reunite them with the band permanently?
The film titled “The Ballad of Wallis Island” is the work of director James Griffiths, with the script penned by Key and Basden.
The movie is set to debut globally for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival this month. After that, it’s scheduled to hit American movie theaters on March 28th. As of now, there’s no announced release date in the United Kingdom.
At Sundance, there are other films set to premiere such as the queer drama “Jimpa” starring Olivia Colman and John Lithgow, the upcoming thriller “The Thing with Feathers” featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, and “Train Dreams,” which stars Felicity Jones, Joel Edgerton, and Kerry Condon.
The Ballad of Wallis Island arrives in US cinemas on March 28, with a UK release date TBC.
