First trailer for new Star Trek movie with Michelle Yeoh
As a long-time fan of the Star Trek universe, I can’t contain my excitement about Paramount+’s new movie, Star Trek: Section 31, featuring Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. The trailer looks absolutely thrilling!
Paramount+ has dropped its first trailer for the new Star Trek movie starring Michelle Yeoh.
In “Star Trek: Section 31,” directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and penned by Craig Sweeny, Michelle Yeoh reprises her character as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. She had previously portrayed this role in the first season of “Star Trek: Discovery.”
According to the given summary, Emperor Philippa Georgiou becomes a member of a clandestine Starfleet unit. In this role, she is responsible for safeguarding the United Federation of Planets, while confronting the transgressions of her past.
I’m thrilled to be part of the same production as Omari Hardwick from “Power,” Sam Richardson known for his role in “Ted Lasso,” and Robert Kazinsky, a familiar face from “Eastenders.” Additionally, I get to act alongside James Hiroyuki Liao from “Barry,” Kacey Rohl who graced our screens in “Hannibal,” Humberly González, and Sven Ruygrok. What an amazing cast to be a part of!
In the enticing preview, it’s revealed that Georgiou, seemingly in charge of an elegant nightclub, gets tapped by Starfleet for a covert operation.
“Philippa Georgiou, you’ve mercilessly slaughtered countless numbers of your own people. Eventually, the past will come back to haunt you,” is a possible paraphrase for Hardwick’s character’s statement to Yeoh’s Georgiou.
In the preview, accompanied by a lively remix of Beyoncé’s “Formation,” Georgiou becomes a member of the clandestine Federation agency called Section 31, leading to an explosion of exciting events.
The trailer reveals that we’ll be privy to Philippa’s backstory as well, featuring a young Georgiou portrayed by Miku Martineau.
In a previous interview regarding her comeback to the Star Trek franchise, Yeoh expressed her excitement by saying: “I’m absolutely delighted to rejoin the Star Trek clan and to once again embrace the character that holds such a special place in my heart.”
She’s had a special connection to Section 31 since I first took on the role of Philippa during the recent Star Trek renaissance.
It’s heartwarming to witness her achieving her goal this year, a reminder of the importance of persisting in pursuing your dreams even when faced with challenges. We’re excited to reveal what’s next for her, and until then, may she live a long and prosperous life (unless ordered otherwise by Emperor Georgiou).
The launch date for “Star Trek: Section 31” remains unannounced. You can currently watch seasons 1-4 of “Star Trek: Discovery” on Paramount+. It has been verified that a fifth and final season will debut around early 2024.
