First trailer for major Oscar contender The Brutalist

As a cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of cinema from the golden age to the digital era, I am genuinely thrilled about The Brutalist. The combination of historical drama, epic scope, and an all-star cast is a recipe for cinematic success that I can’t resist.

The first full-length trailer for “The Brutalist,” a fresh movie featuring Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones in leading roles, has been released to the public.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement for the upcoming historical drama that promises to make waves throughout the awards season. This captivating tale centers around László Tóth (Brody), a Holocaust survivor and architect, who embarks on a journey across the Atlantic in pursuit of the elusive American dream.

Living in Philadelphia, László Jones along with his spouse Erzsébet, encounter the affluent businessman Harrison Lee Van Buren (played by Guy Pearce), who presents an enticing proposition. Yet, over time, Lászlo learns that “power and heritage don’t come without a high price.

For the upcoming project, the talented cast assembled under director Brady Corbet (known for ‘The Childhood of a Leader’ and ‘Vox Lux’) boasts Joe Alwyn, Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, Emma Laird, and Alessandro Nivola.

The lengthy film, spanning a remarkable 215 minutes, garnered widespread praise at its debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in September. This accolade extended to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where it earned seven nominations, among them Best Picture – Drama.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Jones, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance in ‘The Theory of Everything’, commended directors Corbet and Fastvold for infusing ‘The Brutalist’ with a sense of “genuineness”.

Initially, Jones noted that the movie seemed to be inspired by actual individuals due to its sense of realism and impressive technical details. Jones is known for his roles, including one in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As a captivated viewer, it seemed as if I was immersed in a cinematic masterpiece penned by Brady and Mona themselves. Their work appears to be redefining the boundaries of filmmaking, offering an unparalleled experience that audiences seem to savor deeply. This commitment to long-form storytelling feels like a breath of fresh air, offering a unique, almost nostalgic take on cinema that I find utterly fascinating.

The Brutalist is in cinemas on December 20 in the US and January 24, 2025 in the UK.
