As someone who has seen their fair share of British films, I can confidently say that Timestalker is a standout gem among this year’s releases. The combination of historical sci-fi, romance, and comedy is not only unique but also executed brilliantly by Alice Lowe, who has proven her directorial prowess once again.
Timestalker is among the top British films this year, and here’s a taste of what lies ahead for you.
The British production company, Vertigo Releasing, has revealed the official UK trailer for the unique blend of history, science fiction, romance, and comedy by Alice Lowe, titled “Alice Lowe’s Historical Sci-Fi Rom-Com”. This intriguing film features a talented cast including Alice Lowe, Jacob Anderson, Aneurin Barnard, Tanya Reynolds, and Nick Frost.
Timestalker chronicles the unfortunate heroine Agnes (Lowe) as she journeys through different eras, continually finding herself drawn to unsuitable men (Barnard). Each time, her story ends tragically with a grisly demise, only for her to be reborn a century later and find herself in the same predicament yet again.
The only means for her to escape her continual destiny of violence might lie in recognizing that she’s worthy of something superior, yet can she ultimately break free from her cycle of foolishness in the name of love?

The movie titled “Timestalker” is set to hit the screens of UK and Irish cinemas on October 11th. It’s garnered a remarkable 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes following its debut at SXSW in March 2024, during its world premiere.
As a gamer, I’m excitedly counting down the days until Timestalker hits the screens, but in the meantime, you can immerse yourself in Alice Lowe’s previous directorial masterpiece, Prevenge, available for streaming right now on Prime Video. This gripping slasher film was brought to life by Alice during her pregnancy in 2016, and it’s a must-watch!
While speaking with the British Film Institute (BFI), Lowe shared that the film initially began as a concept resembling a “distorted Doctor Who episode.
“She mentioned a scenario where a woman traverses through time and remains fixated on an old lover. It seems as though once you’ve moved on from someone, they unexpectedly reappear in your life because they have been reborn.

For quite some time, I’ve penned numerous films involving the demise of characters. Now, I feel it’s only appropriate to depict my own on-screen death – for balance. I wanted to create something more humorous in essence. However, despite its intended levity, the script remains quite somber as dark themes tend to emerge naturally.
I was seeking something vibrant, magical, and full of whimsy. If given the opportunity to create something with a budget, I’d love to immerse myself in it – bringing all my cinematic dreams to life in a single project.
Timestalker is released in UK and Irish cinemas on October 11.
