First trailer for Cillian Murphy’s Ireland-based drama Small Things Like These
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for immersive stories and a soft spot for Irish cinema, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of “Small Things Like These.” Having grown up in a town not unlike the one depicted in this film, the hauntingly familiar setting instantly piqued my interest.
Lionsgate has released a first-look trailer for Cillian Murphy’s new Ireland-based film.
In “Small Things Like These,” an actor who won an Oscar takes on the leading role, as this film adaptation is derived from the critically acclaimed short novel with the same title, penned by Claire Keegan.
In this movie, I find myself sharing the screen with Michelle Fairley from Game of Thrones, Clare Dunne known for Kin, and Emily Watson. My character in the story makes an astonishing revelation about our small town’s local convent as we delve deeper into the mystery unfolding there.
As a gamer, I’m sharing that the trailer presents a character named Murphy, who is both a father figure and a coal dealer named Bill Furlong. This intriguing individual seems to be inquisitive about the frequent arrivals and departures of young girls at the nearby Catholic convent, which borders his yard.
As I dive into this captivating game world, I’m among the lucky few given an exclusive sneak peek at Dunne and Watson, portraying two powerful sisters residing in a convent. A fascinating twist unfolds when we see Watson’s character subtly bribing Bill with an envelope labeled for his wife, Eileen.
Struggling with choosing right from wrong, the trailer ends with Eileen, speaking in a voiceover to her spouse, saying: “To advance in life, there are certain things one must choose to overlook.
In the course of selling coal to provide for his loved ones, he stumbles upon mysterious secrets hidden within the local convent. This revelation uncovers truths about himself as well, compelling him to delve into his past and challenge the silent complicity of a small Irish town under the Catholic Church’s influence.
Apart from acting in the film, Murphy is also involved as a producer for “Small Things Like These“. This project also features stars such as Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Alan Moloney.
The film is directed by Tim Mielants, who previously worked with Murphy on Peaky Blinders.
At the heart of the excitement, I was fortunate enough to witness the world premiere of “Small Things Like These” at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February.
At its initial release, the movie garnered positive opinions from critics, and now boasts an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Small Things Like These will receive a UK and Ireland release but a date is yet to be shared.
