First trailer for Anna Kendrick’s true crime movie Woman of the Hour

As a fan who has been following Anna Kendrick’s career since her days in Pitch Perfect, I am thrilled to see her stepping into the director’s chair with Woman of the Hour. The trailer is a chilling glimpse into the dark world of serial killers and the societal misogyny that often goes unchecked. It’s like watching a horror movie, but knowing it’s based on a true story makes it all the more haunting.

The first trailer for Anna Kendrick’s true crime movie Woman of the Hour has been released.

The movie represents the first time directing for the star from “Pitch Perfect,” and it was unveiled a year ago to widespread praise, initially receiving a flawless rating on Rotten Tomatoes (now at 90%).

The drama “Woman of the Hour” recounts the actual events surrounding serial murderer Rodney Alcala, portrayed by Daniel Zovatto. Remarkably, during his murderous rampage, Alcala participated in and won a television show called “The Dating Game“.

In the eerie trailer, we are introduced to Kendrick’s contestant Cheryl Bradshaw, who is meets Alcala on the show.

Yet, a somber tone emerges as she embarks on a date with the suspected serial killer, revealing chilling scenes of him and his apparent victims.

Prior to her first appearance on The Dating Game, Bradshaw was cautioned by an assistant in a gentle manner: “Regardless of their chosen phrases, the underlying query behind the query is consistently the same… who among you will cause me pain?”

In a critique penned by Nick Schager for The Daily Beast, the film was characterized as both a gripping true-crime thriller and a profound critique of deep-rooted societal misogyny. Much like its psychopathic protagonist, this assessment is remarkably incisive and astute.

As a devoted admirer, I couldn’t agree more with Meagan Navarro from Bloody Disgusting when she said that Kendrick’s bold and unique approach, seamlessly weaving horror and humor with non-linear storytelling, results in a truly memorable debut.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Kendrick’s latest film titled “Self Reliance” has just been made available for streaming in the United Kingdom on Paramount+.

In a different take, the comedy-thriller is penned and helmed by Jake Johnson, formerly of “New Girl,” with its narrative revolving around an individual who joins a game in which he must endure a band of assassins for thirty days. However, there’s a catch: they can only attack him when he’s by himself, offering an opportunity to exploit a loophole and find safety in the company of others.

After that, he locates another contestant (Kendrick), choosing to share each instant with him as they strive to endure the game and secure a prize of one million dollars.

The movie “Woman of the Hour” hasn’t announced its UK cinema release date as of now, but it will become available on Netflix in different regions instead.
