First official look at Netflix’s “transformed adaptation” of classic that was “treasured” ’70s show

The initial trailer for the new Netflix series, Little House on the Prairie, offers fans a first look at this reimagined version of the classic story. Based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s popular books, the series will begin streaming on July 9th.

The Little House books are based on the author’s childhood memories of life in the American West during the 1800s. Alice Halsey recently took on the main role in a new adaptation of the story.

The initial trailer for the historical drama showcases the Ingalls family, with Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Skywalker Hughes playing Charles, Caroline, and Mary.

The trailer opens with a narration by Halsey, who begins by saying, “Once upon a time, Ma, Pa, Mary, and Laura left their home in the Wisconsin woods and moved to the prairie, hoping to start a new life.”

She explained that each day felt like a new adventure. Despite being small and isolated under the vast sky, they found joy simply in being a family and having each other.

The Ingalls family is building a new life – and a new home – while getting to know the people in town. It’s full of the warm, family-centered moments that made the original series from the 70s and 80s so beloved.

The show also features Warren Christie, Meegwun Fairbrother, Jocko Sims, and a talented ensemble cast including Wren Zhawenim Gotts, Alyssa Wapanatâhk, Ryan Robbins, Barrett Doss, Mary Holland, Michael Hough, Kowen Cadorath, and Thosh Collins.

Rebecca Sonnenshine, the writer, showrunner, and executive producer, recently shared her excitement about the cast with Tudum, saying she’s “absolutely thrilled” with the talented group they’ve put together.

The showrunner explained that each cast member offers something unique to the world of Little House, and they’re confident the actors will bring this story to life for a new audience. They also shared that they had a strong connection to the books growing up, falling in love with them as a child.

Even before the historical drama has aired, Netflix seems confident it will be a hit. They unexpectedly approved a second season last month, suggesting they anticipate strong viewership.

Little House on the Prairie streams on Netflix on 9 July.
