Filming has finished on Sheridan Smith’s new movie, Girl Group, and a first look reveals a promising story. The film follows a popular ’90s and early 2000s pop group as they reunite for a highly anticipated tour.
The new girl group features Smith, Rebel Wilson, Ashley Roberts from The Pussycat Dolls, Mel C of the Spice Girls, and Shaznay Lewis from All Saints. The story centers around Rebel Wilson’s character, who is unexpectedly fired from the group’s tour by the other members.
Forced to do community service, the outcast sees an opportunity to turn things around by coaching a team of unlikely teen girls as they prepare for a high-stakes audition with a record label.

But when her intense drive pushes her too far, she must face the harmful environment that fostered her success, and her own spiraling downfall.
Wilson posted a sneak peek on Instagram of the cast in their sparkly pop star outfits, celebrating the end of filming. The video shows the group lip-syncing to a mashup of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Beez in the Trap’ and 4 Non Blondes’ ‘What’s Up,’ following a popular online trend.

The video, labeled “And that’s a wrap on the girl group London!”, briefly showed what looked like a member of the band’s competitor, who is managed by the same character.
Seriously, when does this come out?! As a total 90s kid at heart, I’m already planning my outfit – tracksuit is READY – and I’m so hyped to see this in theaters! And honestly, the cast looks amazing – what a fantastic group of women!
One person exclaimed, “This is fantastic, I’m really excited about this!” Another commented on the impressive group of women involved, while a third expressed anticipation for the finished movie.
Wilson is not only acting in the movie, but she’s also directing, writing, and producing it. She says Girl Group is a really upbeat and energetic film that will have audiences singing and dancing on their way out of the theater.
Wilson praised the cast, saying they’re incredibly talented – not just as singers, dancers, and actors, but also as comedians. He’s excited to be working with Live Nation Studios and FAE on what he calls a truly empowering film for women.
