First look at Rachel Zegler as Eva Perón in Evita as she sings Don’t Cry For Me Argentina on the London Palladium balcony

On Tuesday, Rachel Zegler made her debut as Eva Perón in Evita, singing “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from the London Palladium’s balcony for the very first time.

23-year-old actress, embroiled in controversy following the launch of Disney’s progressive Snow White adaptation, will be appearing on stage this weekend in Jamie Lloyd’s latest West End play.

Stepping onto the balcony for my first time in this new position, I proudly donned a well-coiffed, elegant up-do wig of a becoming blonde hue.

The American star looked incredible in a strapless white gown and wore a huge dazzling necklace.

Rachel confidently showcased her exceptional vocal skills by singing Madonna’s 1996 classic from the balcony, all the while being filmed by a production team who were documenting her performance.

Rachel is optimistic that her career may take a new direction similar to Nicole Scherzinger, who played a role in the 2023 updated adaptation of Sunset Boulevard directed by Jamie, a performance that earned her praise and was eventually adapted for Broadway.

Actress who played in “West Side Story” is set to appear on the West End stage for the first time, portraying Eva Perón, former First Lady of Argentina, in a production initially staged in 1978. This musical was penned by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

From June through September 2025, Rachel is scheduled to perform on stage at London’s Palladium in the renowned musical.

After the recent announcement, Rachel expressed her excitement by saying: “Ever since I was young, listening to Evita has held special significance. My father and I would often sing ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ on our back porch.

It’s a unique privilege to help realize Jamie Lloyd’s creative, innovative concepts onstage. For me, the stage has always been a place of comfort, and I eagerly anticipate my West End debut, especially as part of such distinguished ensemble.

While speaking, Jamie expressed his enthusiasm: ‘I’m thrilled to be working alongside the remarkable Rachel Zegler on Evita. She’s an exceptional artist, and I can’t wait for her to grace the West End stage for the first time as the legendary Eva Perón.’

The acclaimed musical ‘Evita’, penned by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is making a grand comeback on the West End stage. This time around, it’s been creatively reinvented by the talented, award-winning director Jamie Lloyd.

Showcasing a memorable soundtrack with hits like ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’, ‘Oh What a Circus’, ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’, and the Academy Award-winning ‘You Must Love Me’.

Driven by determination and fervor, Eva Perón climbed her way out of poverty to become the most influential woman in Latin America. To numerous Argentinians, she was a beacon of hope; her radiant presence touched their hearts deeply while stirring deep divisions within their nation.

Rachel has a lot of experience with musical theater and played a lead role in Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-winning adaptation of West Side Story, which was released in 2021.

Notable personalities who have portrayed the legendary character Evita include Patti LuPone, Elaine Paige, and the globally recognized Madonna, particularly in the 1996 film adaptation.

On Sunday, Rachel made a sharp remark concerning Broadway while posting a collection of pictures in tribute to the Tony Awards 2025.

In a surprising turn of events, Snow White was overlooked during her first appearance on Broadway in the reprisal of Romeo and Juliet, where she shared the stage with Kit Connor from Heartstopper.

Rachel conveyed a statement to her fellow Broadway performers, emphasizing that performing on Broadway isn’t for those who are timid or lack courage.

Rachel started off by expressing her deep admiration for those being recognized this evening – it takes tremendous effort, particularly when it comes to performances lasting about 2-3 hours, like a Broadway musical or play.

This experience isn’t for the timid; we’re more than just players, we’re athletes in our own league. Tonight, we’re not just celebrating the performances on stage, but also the tireless efforts behind the scenes that make these renowned venues shine.

She added, ‘I love my job so d**n much.’

Instead of Rachel receiving a nomination for Best Actress, it was Sadie Sink, Sarah Snook, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Laura Donnelly, and Mia Farrow who were honored in that category.
