First look at Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in new Netflix movie The Electric State
As a fan who grew up in the 90s and has been enamored with sci-fi since watching Back to the Future for the first time, the announcement of Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt joining forces in The Electric State is nothing short of exhilarating! Having watched Stranger Things from its debut, I’ve seen Brown’s remarkable transformation into Eleven, and it’s fascinating to see her taking on a character reminiscent yet distinct.
A sneak peek at Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in the upcoming Netflix film, titled The Electric State, has been revealed to the public.
In the coming days, I’ll be diving headfirst into an electrifying 90s-themed sci-fi adventure, created by none other than the brilliant minds behind Marvel’s blockbusters – Joe and Anthony Russo. This thrilling tale is inspired by Simon Stålenhag’s captivating illustrated novel. As the story unfolds, I find myself playing a character on a quest to locate my long-lost brother, with an unlikely ally by my side – a robot!
Initially, some snapshots from the upcoming film are out, depicting Brown appearing as Michelle with blonde tresses, whereas Pratt assumes a ’70s style with long hair and a goatee as Keats.
The movie’s robots, along with the characters Dr. Amherst (played by Ke Huy Quan), Colonel Marshall Bradbury (Giancarlo Esposito), and Ethan Skate (Stanley Tucci) have all been unveiled in a recent sneak peek.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Brown likened Michelle’s personality to that of Eleven from Stranger Things.
She stated, “In terms of our actual ages, it felt more about deciding when to reveal my vulnerabilities and when to hide them. Essentially, I was navigating those situations.
I hope she appears unyielding to others, reflecting a strong character. However, upon closer acquaintance, she reveals a softer side and becomes more affectionate. I’ve incorporated many of my personal experiences into shaping her personality.
In relation to Stålenhag’s book, Joe Russo commented: “It seemed like a tale of fractured families and fractured individuals searching for one another in a damaged society. This theme struck a chord with us, given that we are raising our children in an era dominated by technology.
He noted that if the narrative was modern-day, it might be perceived as dealing with assault. However, by framing it as a fable or removing it from current events, we can provide room for audiences to consider it in a different light.
As a gamer, I’ve got to hand it to Simon Stalenhag – the way he spins his tales is nothing short of genius. What he does is he shows us humans using tech to strip ourselves of our humanity, and then he weaves a narrative where that technology yearns to be human itself. It’s a mind-bending exploration of what it means to be human in an increasingly technological world.

The Electric State will premiere on Netflix in March 2025.
