First look at Martin Freeman’s new UK-set movie as it starts filming

As a dedicated fan of mysteries and captivating narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement as the filming for “Flavia” has commenced! With Martin Freeman, Toby Jones, and the promising Molly Belle Wright leading the cast, this adaptation of Alan Bradley’s beloved series promises to be a delightful journey.

Sky has released a first-look image of Martin Freeman’s Flavia as filming for it has begun.

The actor known from “Sherlock”, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, and “The Hobbit” has joined forces with Toby Jones, who stars in “Mr Bates vs the Post Office” (and is also part of the MCU), as well as young actress Molly Belle Wright for a new collaboration.

The movie tells the story of an 11-year-old detective prodigy, who employs her intelligence and cunning to unravel mysteries following a distressing incident.

If this scenario seems familiar, it’s likely due to its inspiration from “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie,” a well-known novel written by Alan Bradley. This book is actually the first installment in a collection of mysteries featuring Flavia de Luce.

In the recently unveiled scene, the threesome appear relaxed yet troubled, seated within what seems like a cozy library, their attention seemingly diverted towards an incident happening out of sight. Notably, Toby adopts the classic attire of a detective inspector, sporting a hat and coat combination.

“In the official summary, it is mentioned that when Flavia discovers a corpse at her dilapidated English manor, her father is wrongly implicated in the crime. Eager to clear her father’s name and uncover the truth, Flavia embarks on an adventurous and daring investigation, which leads her to unveil hidden family mysteries and confront the real killer.

In the role of script adapter for “Daisy Jones and the Six” is Susan Coyne, while Bharat Nalluri assumes the directorial duties for “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.

Additional performers in this production are Annette Badland from Ted Lasso, Jonathan Pryce known for Pirates of the Caribbean, and Karan Gill, star of Screw. Filming is scheduled to continue until November.

George Hamilton, Chief Creative Officer at Protagonist Production, expressed his enthusiasm in a statement: “It’s more than just exciting for us as filming has started! We’re privileged to offer a first peek into the world of our protagonist, Flavia.

As a gaming enthusiast, I find myself in awe of the stellar ensemble and under the guidance of director Bharat, the initial Flavia de Luce mystery story is transforming into a captivating movie that promises to be a fun-filled, family-friendly entertainment!
