First look at Lenny Kravitz’s “magnetic” James Bond villain in 007 First Light

Lenny Kravitz, the actor known for The Hunger Games and singer of ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way,’ is joining the world of James Bond as a villain. A new trailer for the upcoming 007 First Light video game reveals Kravitz playing Bawma, who has captured the iconic spy in a dramatic and elaborate trap.

As a huge Hitman fan, I was so excited to see what IO Interactive would do with James Bond, and their game, First Light, doesn’t disappoint! It’s an origin story, showing a young Bond on his first missions as he works to earn his license to kill and ultimately become 007. It’s really cool to see where he started!

The trailer introduces us to Bond in Mauritania, where he confronts Bawma, a powerful crime boss who controls the illegal arms trade and believes he’s invincible.

While the villain boasts about himself and his town built from a ship graveyard, we see Bond is trapped, hanging upside down and surrounded by creatures eager to eat him.

I’m really hoping Lenny Kravitz might have a song in the new game! It wouldn’t be the first time a musician got involved like that – Joss Stone actually was a character and did the theme song for the Bond game Blood Stone back in 2012, so it’s definitely possible!

Alongside Lenny Kravitz, the movie First Light will also star Lennie James (from The Walking Dead), Gemma Chan (Humans), Alastair Mackenzie (Andor), Priyanga Burford (Steeltown Murders), and Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin), who will play James Bond.

In this game, players will join James Bond on a worldwide adventure, encountering both friends and enemies – sometimes people who are both! You’ll decide how to handle challenges, using strength, smarts, or charm to succeed.

IO’s blog hints that the character Bawma is a complex figure, shifting between being a friend and an enemy. Meanwhile, Kravitz has called his character ‘magnetic’ and someone whose actions are hard to foresee.

The actor explained that the character is both dangerous and deeply compassionate, driven by a strong sense of purpose. He’s not simply powerful; he constantly struggles and earns everything he achieves.

Amazon MGM now leads the creative direction for James Bond films. They’ve chosen Denis Villeneuve to direct and Steven Knight to write the next installment.

We still don’t know who will be the next James Bond, and speculation about the casting is rampant.

The game 007 First Light is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on March 27th.
