ITV has released a sneak peek of its upcoming drama, The Dark, starring Helen Baxendale (known for Cold Feet) and directed by Gilles Bannier (Blue Lights).
The new drama, described as a chilling serial killer story, offers a first look at Helen Baxendale playing Bethany Morgan, a desperate mother. Bethany is pushed to the breaking point when Detective Monica (Donnelly) returns to her home with a case that may be connected to her missing son.
The cast for the new six-part series also includes Laura Donnelly, known for The Nevers, and Mark Rowley, who starred in Karen Pirie. They will play detectives DI Monica Kennedy and DC Connor Crawford.

The network says the preview shows Monica and Connor on a suspenseful chase through the beautiful Scottish Highlands, hunting a dangerous and disturbed serial killer.
The story begins with the unsettling discovery of a young man’s body, carefully positioned in the beautiful Scottish countryside. Detective Monica Kennedy quickly suspects this is the first act in a frightening series of events that will target a close-knit rural community. As fear spreads, long-held secrets and suspicions surface, and the residents begin to realize a serial killer is living among them.

Monica Kennedy, hardened by years of facing the worst of human behavior, finds herself in a dangerous pursuit of a clever and ruthless killer. She’s the only one who can stop him before he hurts anyone else, but her past begins to haunt her, making her question her own instincts. Ultimately, will her own choices prove to be the greatest threat to her and her loved ones?
The latest photos offer a first look at the menacing, masked serial killer, hinting at another attack.

The TV series The Dark is inspired by GR Halliday’s first novel, From the Shadows, and was developed for television by Matt Hartley, with contributions from writers Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy.
Bannier, the lead director and executive producer of Blue Lights, takes on the same roles for The Dark. He’s joined by fellow executive producers Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf, and Fern McCauley. The series is produced by Poison Pen Studios, which is part of ITV Studios.
The Dark will debut on ITV.
