First Look at ‘Invincible’ Season 4 Reveals ‘Walking Dead’ Alum as Key Character

The highly anticipated fourth season of Invincible, the superhero series based on Robert Kirkman’s comics, is coming to Amazon Prime Video in March. While a specific date hasn’t been revealed, Amazon is building excitement with new promotional images, including a first look at a new character played by Danai Gurira. Gurira is well-known for her roles as Okoye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Michonne in The Walking Dead.

In the animated series Invincible, Danai will portray Universa, an alien villain who travels to Earth with the goal of stealing its energy to save her own planet. However, things don’t go as planned, as a recently released image shows Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) punching Universa in the face.

I’m really excited to see so many familiar faces from The Walking Dead joining the cast of Invincible! It makes total sense, since Robert Kirkman created both comics, so of course he’d bring some of his old colleagues onto this new project. Steven Yeun, who I loved as Glenn, actually is Invincible – that’s Mark Grayson. I was blown away by the fight scene with the new villain, Dinosaurus (Matthew Rhys) – a genius scientist who can transform into an incredibly strong dinosaur, believing he’s saving humanity by… well, eliminating a lot of people. It’s wild! And in season 3, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played the unforgettable Negan, showed up as Conquest, a seriously powerful and ruthless enforcer from the Viltrum Empire. Last I heard, Conquest was still alive, so I’m expecting to see a lot more of Negan – I mean, Conquest – in season 4!

The Cast of Invincible Gets Even More Impressive

As a huge fan, I was thrilled to see the latest images! Right next to Mark and Dinosaurus, there’s a shot of Thragg – he’s the terrifying leader of the Viltrum Empire and a major villain in the show – soaring through space. Apparently, Lee Pace, who I loved in Foundation, is going to voice him. Then there’s Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen) with his arm around Mark’s dad, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). They didn’t exactly hit it off at first, but now they’re teaming up to fight the Viltrum Empire. And it’s great to see some familiar faces returning, like Bulletproof (Jay Pharoah) and Shapesmith (Ben Schwartz)!

The voice acting in Invincible is truly top-notch. While not every actor appears in every episode, the show has featured a remarkable list of talent, including Sandra Oh, Walton Goggins, Zachary Quinto, Mahershala Ali, Mae Whitman, Zazie Beetz, Jason Mantzoukas, Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Nicole Byer, Jonathan Groff, and Aaron Paul. This likely represents a significant expense for the show, but the quality of the performances makes it a worthwhile investment.
