First look at Himesh Patel and Matt Berry in cabbage-smuggling comedy
As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless virtual worlds and adventures, I can confidently say that the plot of “Bubble & Squeak” sounds like a captivating journey through an alternate reality. The combination of humor, suspense, and a bit of the absurd (who would have thought cabbages could cause such chaos?) has piqued my interest.
The initial photographs for the upcoming movie titled “Bubble & Squeak,” featuring actors Himesh Patel and Matt Berry, have been revealed to the public.
This “unconventional” comedy chronicles the adventures of newlyweds Declan (Patel) and Dolores (Sarah Goldberg), who find themselves on the run after border agent Shazbor (Berry) believes they’re illegally transporting cabbages.
For the initial unveiling prior to its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Evan Twohy’s directorial debut has recently revealed its first visuals. These images depict actors Patel, Berry, and Goldberg portraying their characters.
Apart from the previously mentioned three actors, “Bubble & Squeak” is graced by an impressive ensemble, featuring Dave Franco and Steven Yeun in significant roles, with the latter also serving as one of the producers.
In this movie, directed by Evan Twohy, who made his first mark in filmmaking with this project, we find ourselves following an argumentative newlywed couple, Declan and Dolores, as they are unintentionally stranded in a fictitious foreign land. They are relentlessly chased by Shazbor, a determined customs official who believes them to be smuggling cabbages. The movie is based on Twohy’s successful comedic play.
Divided into distinct sections, ‘Bubble & Squeak’ is a twisted fairy tale that explores the trials of a marriage affected by tourism, unraveling bit by bit. Twohy finds humor in his eccentric portrayal of a seemingly charming but sinister European village, seamlessly blending scenes of picturesque landscapes with elements of quirky fabrication.
Patel and Goldberg head an enthusiastic ensemble that delivers Twohy’s quirky dialogue with unwavering sincerity, subtly revealing the sadness hidden beneath the film’s unusual facade. Bubble & Squeak tackles the complexities of love with surprising humor and emotion.
Despite the confirmed world premiere in late January and early February, no information has been given about the theatrical release date of Bubble & Squeak in both the UK and the US.
Over the past year, Shabaz Patel, known for portraying Tamwar Masood on “EastEnders” from 2007 to 2016, has taken on acting roles in “Greedy People”, “The Assessment”, and “The Franchise”. These opportunities came after his appearance in the sixth series of “Black Mirror” during the previous season.
There is no release date for Bubble & Squeak.
