First look at Gillian Anderson in Channel 4’s new Northern Ireland-set period drama
The initial photos for the upcoming Channel 4 historical series titled “Trespasses,” featuring Gillian Anderson, have been unveiled.
The show, inspired by Louise Kennedy’s 2022 novel, unfolds in 1970s Northern Ireland, against the tumultuous events of The Troubles. A love story develops between a young woman and a lawyer, portrayed by Lola Petticrew and Tom Cullen respectively, amidst this turbulent backdrop.
As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming four-part drama by Channel 4. They’ve just shared some tantalizing initial photos, and I can hardly contain my excitement! The images show none other than Petticrew and Cullen together, which is sure to make the series even more captivating.
An image shows Anderson, portraying the role of Petticrew’s mom, seated within a cozy living space.
The novel, “Trespasses,” is characterized as a poignant love story unfolding amidst the turmoil, known as The Troubles. The story revolves around Cushla (Petticrew), a vibrant young woman whose passions and aspirations have been stifled by the monotony of her daily existence.
In the new series, Cullen, known for his role as Anthony Foyle, Viscount Gillingham in Downton Abbey, will portray a “disputed” barrister named Michael. On the other hand, Anderson’s character, Gina, is described as a “splendid wreck” who often engages in verbal sparring with her daughter.
1975, situated in a town near Belfast. On a regular evening at their family-run tavern, Cushla, a young Catholic school teacher, interacts with a diverse clientele that includes local soldiers stationed there. During this night shift, she encounters Michael, an older Protestant man who is married.
Frequently, he stands up for individuals suspected of being involved with the IRA, and maintains friendships with cultured Bohemians that exasperate and fascinate Cushla. Although their worlds differ significantly, a bond between them is dangerously captivating; yet they find themselves inexplicably attracted to each other, despite Cushla’s awareness of the potential turmoil this relationship might bring.
In an environment where careless talk can lead to deadly consequences and hidden perils loom everywhere, shrouded by apprehension and suspicion, a clandestine romance sparked and blazed fiercely between Cushla and Michael… (The rest remains the same)
I’m the gamer here, and let me tell you about the stellar lineup in this series I’m hooked on. It’s penned by Ailbhe Keogan, and the roster is nothing short of impressive: Martin McCann, Oisín Thompson, Emily Taaffe, Barry Ward, Lisa Dwyer Hogg, Lorcan Cranitch, Frank Blake, Gary Lydon, and Lalor Roddy. Each one brings something unique to the table, making this a must-watch for any gaming enthusiast like me.
Trespasses is scheduled to premiere on Channel 4 in 2025.
