First look at Emma Stone and Austin Butler in mysterious new thriller Eddington
The initial preview for the upcoming dark comedy titled “Eddington,” directed by Ari Aster, has been unveiled before its premiere at Cannes.
The video displays Joaquin Phoenix’s on-screen persona, engrossed in a gloomy period of news updates on his smartphone.
The movie unfolds in May 2020 amidst the global turmoil caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. This catastrophic health crisis leads to a bitter conflict between Joe Cross, the sheriff of Eddington, New Mexico, and Mayor Ted Garcia (Pedro Pascal).

The trailer also gives a sneak peek at the characters played by Emma Stone and Austin Butler.
While browsing through his social media feed, Cross encounters a video from his wife Louise (Stone), where she clarifies to the camera that the statement her husband made the previous day was untrue.
In the case of Butler, a figure reminiscent of a guru named Vernon Jefferson Peak is visible in a video, addressing a crowd and generating enthusiasm among them.
In a passionate outburst, he shouts into the microphone, asserting, “We’re not mere happenstance,” while the video carries a provocative message: “Regain control of your thoughts. Recover your individuality.
Directed and penned by Aster, known for his works like ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’, the movie ‘Eddington’ is set to have its first public screening at Cannes Film Festival. Here, it will compete with other films in an attempt to win the prestigious Palme d’Or award.
In addition to Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr, and Luke Grimes, the movie features these talented individuals. However, specifics about the roles they will play have not been disclosed at this time.
Eddington is set to make its debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, running from May 13th to the 24th. Following its premiere, the film will hit theaters on July 18th.
