As a dedicated gamer and film enthusiast with a soft spot for unique and innovative projects, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming hybrid movie “The Extraordinary Miss Flower” featuring Caroline Catz and singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini. With a background in gaming and a deep appreciation for storytelling in all its forms, I can’t help but be intrigued by this genre-blending collaboration between film and theatre.
In this version, I’d phrase it as: Caroline Catz, known for her role in “Doc Martin,” joins the cast of the innovative film “The Extraordinary Miss Flower” alongside Icelandic singer-songwriter Emilíana Torrini.
Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard’s direction (of the film “20,000 Days on Earth”): The narrative unfolds as a unique blend of cinema and theater, recounting Geraldine Flower’s story and the unearthing of a box filled with letters addressed to her during the 1960s and 70s.
In a unique turn of events, Torrini and her band present a sequence of shows, marking the singer’s return to the recording studio after a decade-long absence, to create her latest album entitled, “Miss Flower.”

As a huge fan, I’m excited to share that this nearly finished movie is a beautiful fusion of music, emotional scenes, and heartfelt readings from letters brought to life by renowned actors and musicians. It’s going to be an incredibly moving tribute to the enduring influence of creativity and friendship.
In addition to singing ten tracks, Torrini makes her debut collaboration with Catz in the role of Miss Flower. The movie boasts notable performances from Richard Ayoade, Siggi Baldursson, Nick Cave, Alice Lowe, Mark Monero, Niall Murphy, and Angus Sampson in secondary parts. Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s voice is also heard in the production.
At the performance, Kate Coyne (previously with Michael Clark company) dances together with Viva Seifert and Saeed Esmaeli. Meanwhile, Torrini takes the stage with her band members: Simon Byrt, Mara Carlyle, Liam Hutton, Ian Kellett, and Lovisa Sigrunardottir.
Forsyth and Pollard expressed in a statement their significant time investment in brainstorming methods to blend music and film. Upon serendipitous encounter with Emilíana in Reykjavik, they recognized her as an exceptional collaborator for such a fusion project.
“She has a mesmerizing presence and is a skillful storyteller, always keeping a gleam in her eye. In this movie, we aim to record an enchanting act, in partnership with the camera. That’s where the true enchantment lies for us.”
I was utterly captivated by being part of this film production. It was an exhilarating rollercoaster ride for me, something I’ve never experienced before on a film set. To be honest, I’m still reeling from the experience and can hardly believe what transpired. Zoe, Iain, and Jane left me in complete awe of their incredible talent and ability to bring it all together so swiftly.
I’ve had the privilege of working with some truly exceptional artists and crew members in my career, but the team at Distiller stands out as one of the most impressive. Their deep connection to our music, both emotionally and creatively, was truly awe-inspiring. I can’t express enough gratitude for Sam and his team’s belief in our project and their unwavering support throughout the entire process. It’s not every day that you encounter such dedication and passion. Their contributions have left an indelible mark on my artistic journey, and I will forever be grateful for this experience.
