First look at Connor Swindells in new movie as it confirms UK release date

As a history enthusiast with a penchant for epic tales and a soft spot for films that delve into the complexities of power struggles and individual liberty, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “William Tell.” Having grown up listening to the legend of this iconic figure, it’s a delight to see such a timeless story being brought to life by an impressive ensemble cast led by the talented Claes Bang.

Initial visuals of “William Tell” offer fans a sneak peek at Connor Swindells portraying his character, as the UK premiere date gets unveiled.

Under the guidance of BAFTA-winning director Nick Hamm, this upcoming movie is set to narrate an extraordinary chronicle based on the renowned 14th-century archer, portrayed by actor Claes Bang, who has previously starred in “The Northman”.

The synopsis continues: “As the nations of medieval Europe struggle for power, the ruthless Austrian Empire invades Switzerland, and a peaceful huntsman, William Tell, is thrust into the heart of their resistance.

In an upcoming scene, the character played by Sex Education’s Swindells, who assumes the role of Gessler, the king’s first officer, can be seen donning armor and brandishing a sword, standing amidst his comrades-at-arms in a tense battle formation.

After debuting for the first time at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie titled William Tell is set to hit screens in both UK and Ireland on January 10, 2025.

After wrapping up TIFF, I was thrilled to see my movie, “William Tell,” make its European debut at the 2024 Zurich Film Festival. As of now, it’s garnering a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, according to initial reviews.

In addition to the cast, you’ll find Golshifteh Farahani from “Extraction,” Ellie Bamber known for her role in “Les Misérables,” Jonathan Pryce famous for his work on “The Crown,” and Jonah Hauer-King who played a part in “The Tattooist of Auschwitz.” Each brings unique talent to the production.

In addition to being a notable figure in Schindler’s List, actor Ben Kingsley is also part of the cast for William Tell, alongside Emily Beecham known for her role in Daphne, Amar Chadha-Patel from Willow, and Rafe Spall, who appeared in The Big Short.

Speaking to Deadline, Nick Hamm explained what drove him to create the “political and moral” film.

He mentioned, “This captivating European tale remains untouched by cinema yet addresses issues remarkably relevant today.

Essentially, this concept encompasses the idea of personal freedom, making choices, defending that freedom from authoritarian control, and organizing oneself within such context. It’s a blend of politics, morality, and it’s a narrative that has been ongoing for more than 300 years.

William Tell is released in UK and Irish cinemas on January 10, 2025.
