First look at Bruce Campbell in Peacock horror series Hysteria!, premiering this October

As a gamer who’s been through the trials and tribulations of the ’80s in countless retro games, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu with this upcoming series, Hysteria! The synopsis screams nostalgia, blending my love for metal music, horror, and the era’s cultural turmoil. The plot reminds me of those late-night gaming sessions when I was convinced the ghost in the room was after my high score.

As autumn approaches rapidly, you can expect to encounter an abundance of schedules and horror previews in the near future as various networks and streaming platforms gear up for their spooky season content. Peacock is set to release two intriguing horror series this year: one is the James Wan-produced “Teacup,” and the other is the genre-blending series “Hysteria!” starring Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell.

Below, you’ll find the debut trailer for “Hysteria!“. The series is set to launch on Friday, October 18th, exclusively on Peacock. In addition to this, new episodes will air every Friday on USA Network, with both networks simultaneously broadcasting the premiere alongside SYFY.

Hysteria!, created by writers Matthew Scott Kane (known for Stitchers) and David A. Goodman (renowned for The Orville), is portrayed as a series that explores “inter-generational anxiety” and the “excitement of youthful rebelliousness, ambition, and dreams – juxtaposed with the terrors of maturing and discovering that the world you once understood has subtly transformed.”

Hysteria! aims to connect different generations by humorously exploring the struggles of adapting to changing times, popular culture, and societal shifts during the late ’80s – a period marked by the intense Satanic panic.

The story revolves around a band of social misfits in a heavy metal group who exploit the town’s growing fear following the vanishing of their star quarterback by promoting themselves as a Satanic musical act. However, as additional disappearances occur together with bizarre supernatural events, suspicion falls on the band and rumors spread that they might be involved. This leads to a frenzy as the town embarks on a witch hunt.

The storyline seems to bear some resemblance to the events unfolding in the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” where the people of Hawkins, Indiana, mistakenly believed Eddie Munson to be a psychopathic Satanist murderer, if expanded into an entire series.
