First look at Ben Stiller’s return in Netflix’s ’90s comedy sequel
As a gamer who’s spent countless hours perfecting my golf swings in various virtual worlds, the news of the Happy Gilmore sequel has sent me into a state of pure euphoria! I remember watching the original movie back in the ’90s and being utterly captivated by the hilarious antics of Adam Sandler’s character, Happy. The thought that we might get to see more of his golfing shenanigans now that I’ve honed my own virtual golf skills is simply too exciting!
Ben Stiller has been spotted on the set of Netflix’s Happy Gilmore sequel.
Production for the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 Adam Sandler comedy finally kicked off in New Jersey last month, and it’s recently been confirmed that Ben Stiller was spotted shooting scenes on location.
The photo confirms that the actor has stepped back into his role as nursing home orderly Hal L, who is still rocking a horseshoe moustache and bushy hair – though they’re looking a bit greyer this time around.
In the initial film, Sandler plays the role of the lead character, a struggling ice hockey player, who unexpectedly finds a knack for golf and competes in a tournament to prevent his grandmother’s house from being repossessed.
In the sequel, Sandler once again takes on the character of Happy, a role he’s played before. Meanwhile, Christopher McDonald will be back as Shooter McGavin, Happy’s long-time golf competitor. And, Julie Bowen is set to reprise her role as Virginia Venit, Happy’s girlfriend.
In addition to Sandler’s film “Uncut Gems,” Benny Safdie (a collaborator), Nick Swardson (a comedian), Bad Bunny (a musician), and Margaret Qualley (from the movie “The Substance”) have also been included in unspecified roles.
Sandler also previously announced that NFL star Travis Kelce will make a cameo in the project.
Speaking on The Tonight Show, I shared that Travis will make an appearance in our project. So, we’ve got a special treat lined up just for him!
“He’ll drop by soon. He’s an incredibly kind person. I’m sure you two will appreciate him when you meet. He’s quite the tall, attractive fellow. His humor is infectious and he’s got quite the charm.
In collaboration, Sandler penned the script for the sequel alongside Tim Herlihy, a partner he has teamed up with before on projects like ‘Hubie Halloween’, ‘Murder Mystery’, and ‘Grown Ups’. Concurrently, Kyle Newacheck takes over as director from Dennis Dugan, who originally helmed ‘Happy Gilmore’.
Happy Gilmore 2 will stream on Netflix, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
