Channel 4 has released a sneak peek at Maya, a new series filmed in Scotland and starring Daisy Haggard (known for Boat Story and Back to Life) and Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us).
The six-episode drama series, created by Haggard, is planned to launch in 2026, but a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
To escape a dangerous situation, determined single mother Anna and her rebellious teenage daughter Maya are placed in a witness protection program. They’re forced to leave their lives in London – including Anna’s parents, Nancy and George – and start over with new identities in a quiet Scottish town, according to the story’s preview.
What to Read Next
With help from Detective Constable Debs (Josie Walker) and the Witness Protection team – Tony (Stuart Bowman) and Karen (Kiran Sonia Sawar) – the group attempts to rebuild their lives. However, they’re still tormented by their past, as two relentless hitmen, Benji (Ben Chaplin) and Ted (Raphel Famotibe), are determined to find them.
With the situation becoming increasingly desperate, they realize Bobby (Tobias Menzies), a man who appears friendly but is actually dangerous and manipulative, remains a significant and ongoing threat from their past.

This darkly funny and heartwarming series is a captivating psychological thriller. It tackles serious issues like harmful male behavior, family dynamics, and love, but at its core, it’s a touching and clever story about the extraordinary connection between a mother and her daughter. It’s a must-watch!
Ramsey (who uses they/them pronouns) announced in July that they would be joining the project, explaining what attracted them to it. They described the story and characters created by Daisy as vibrant, complex, hilarious, and unsettling. Ramsey said each character felt fully realized, the writing was sharp, and they were particularly excited to play the role of Maya alongside Daisy’s character, Anna (via Deadline).

Haggard, who is co-directing the show with Jamie Donoughue, shared with Variety that after years of developing the series, filming has begun. He expressed immense excitement about the cast, calling them unbelievably talented and saying he feels fortunate to work with them as both a director and actor.
Maya is coming to Channel 4. The series has yet to receive an official release date.
