Star Wars is one of the most enduring and beloved franchises in Hollywood history. For decades, it has captivated audiences worldwide, becoming incredibly popular – almost as if it’s from another galaxy! Its influence shows no signs of fading, and it’s sure to continue entertaining fans for many years to come.
2026 promises to be an exciting year for Star Wars fans. Not only will we see The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters this May, but the second season of Ahsoka is also scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus this year. And now, a brand new, previously unannounced project has been revealed!
Disney Plus unveils first trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord
Fans are excited for the upcoming Disney Plus series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, which will finally give a well-deserved focus to one of the franchise’s most overlooked characters. Disney Plus recently released the first trailer and announced the series will premiere on April 6, 2026, generating a lot of buzz among viewers.
The trailer reveals a dangerous game of cat and mouse: Maul is being pursued by the Emperor’s forces, but he’s secretly the hunter. This sets the stage for a visually striking and suspenseful series, with Maul appearing unexpectedly behind his opponents and fearlessly engaging them in combat with his signature red lightsaber.
I’ve been following his moves, and it’s clear he’s trying to rebuild a criminal organization on Janix – a planet the Empire can’t touch. He’s gathering people who’ve been cast aside and hurt by the galaxy, offering them a new reason to fight. Honestly, the trailer showed him appearing out of the shadows to these folks, and it was a really unsettling, but captivating, scene.

Darth Maul’s powerful and serious delivery is all thanks to the incredible Sam Witwer. Witwer, known for his roles in popular shows like Smallville, Supergirl, Being Human, and a guest appearance on The Walking Dead, is once again bringing the character to life with his voice.
James Witwer famously voiced the villain in the popular animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, allowing fans to learn more about the character after his initial appearance in the 2001 film Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He later returned to the role in the series Star Wars Rebels. The new series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, will fill in the story between these two shows, revealing how the character developed from his appearance in The Clone Wars into the version seen in Rebels.
This animated series picks up a year after The Clone Wars ended. It’s going to show a new side of Maul as he tries to regain his power and challenge Emperor Palpatine, who is hunting him down. Fans are excited to see him back in action!
