Fiona Phillips, 64, Breaks Silence After Year in Stunning New Photo Amid Alzheimer’s Battle
Fiona Phillips was recently seen for the first time in more than a year as she showcases her latest work, Remember When: My life with Alzheimer’s, while fighting against this condition herself.
Previously known for hosting morning television programs, a woman aged 64 learned about her Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis in the year 2022. However, she chose to make this information public a year later, in 2023.
The book she authored is being assisted by her husband, Martin Frizell, who previously worked as an editor for This Morning, and it is set to be published by Pan Macmillan on July 3.
A year after her last public appearance at Kate Garraway’s late husband Derek Draper’s funeral in 2024, Fiona was captured in a lovely photograph with a beautiful smile on her face.
In the book, she’s going to talk about early warning signals and her gradual memory lapse and disorientation, with her spouse also contributing his personal account.

In February 2025, after 26 years of service, Mark, her husband, resigned from his position as editor of ITV’s This Morning to provide care for his wife, who had recently received a medical diagnosis.
Back in February, I found myself compelled to share a deeply emotional update regarding my ongoing health journey. I’ve been battling a condition that has been both terrifying and rewarding in its unique ways. This journey has led me down a path where I’m already grappling with instances of memory loss.
She shared: “I hope this book offers some insights into the daily life experiences of someone living with Alzheimer’s.
‘It can be terrifying and bewildering, yet life still offers moments of happiness and worth. If you or someone close to you is just beginning their journey with Alzheimer’s, I hope this book brings some solace. Remember, you are never alone in your struggle.’
Martin posted a picture of Fiona, taken four years back when she was yet to be diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, in a poignant tribute on Mother’s Day.
Fiona could be smiling while waving at the camera and Martin admitted it has not been easy.
Title for the photo: “You’re not the only one finding Mother’s Day hard. Let’s cherish the joyful moments. Here’s Fiona four years back, on the brink of her symptoms starting. This is my most treasured image of an extraordinary mother.
Martin shared a picture in his subsequent post of the exquisitely etched glass that Fiona had been presented with in 2007, upon being named ‘Mother of the Year’.

He wrote: ‘This was more important in our house than any BAFTA, NTA, or RTS.’
After receiving her diagnosis, Fiona shared that she had joined a drug study aimed at easing her symptoms. She mentioned that so far, it seems like this treatment is effective for her.
Previously, Fiona shared with Women & Home magazine that she is currently participating in a medical study, and the results so far appear promising.
I’m participating in an innovative study aimed at discovering a potential cure. This study uses a novel medication alongside a placebo, and I don’t know whether I’ve been given the treatment or a dummy pill.
At my six-month appointment in October, they administered cognitive tests to evaluate my current mental state. The results indicated that my cognitive abilities were similar to what they were the preceding year.
I’m optimistic that the medication seems to be keeping the illness stable. I wouldn’t prefer being part of the trial, but I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity.
There are potential complications, such as brain bleeding, involved in this process, so I consider myself an experimental subject. However, there is a genuine possibility that it could bring about positive results.
Fiona, mother of Martin’s two boys, surprised her vast audience by disclosing that, much like her own parents, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
However, the celebrity appears to be feigning ignorance about her ailment, choosing to live life as normal for the sake of enjoyment.
At that point in time, it was said that she continues to catch up with friends over coffee and enjoys going for strolls. However, she confessed that Mark gets concerned about her when he’s engrossed in his work.
As an ardent enthusiast, I firmly believe that I can continue to live a remarkable life. I’m choosing to move forward, focusing on the present and the joy it brings. For now, I choose to keep the recent events at bay, carving out as little room for them in my life as possible. There are still countless dreams left unrealized, and I’m determined to make each moment count towards their fulfillment.
Martin often frets over my activities while he’s working or out in the evening, as well as if I’m eating enough. Yet, it’s a different phase for me currently. I’m not considering giving up. There’s still a great deal that excites me and keeps me looking forward.
As someone who departed from GMTV back in December 2008 due to personal family matters, I’ve found myself expressing my thoughts more openly and honestly ever since my diagnosis. This newfound authenticity has been a significant part of my journey.
She added that nobody has reacted badly to her more candid comments.

‘Martin says I have no filter now, and it’s true,’ said Fiona.
I tend to say or do amusing things quite often. I believe this increased candor isn’t something detrimental, but rather a positive development in my interactions with others.
In most cases, I find myself giving compliments rather than expressing thoughts that might otherwise go unsaid, and fortunately, no one seems to be taking offense.
‘Martin can get frustrated occasionally, but everyone around me has grown accustomed to it by now. My diagnosis isn’t only about despair; there’s still a good deal of hope in the situation, and it’s essential to focus on that.’
