Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk will write and direct an Idle Hands remake
As a fan who grew up in the golden age of 90s and early 2000s cinema, I am genuinely thrilled to see that one of my favorite cult classics, “Idle Hands,” is getting a reboot. While its initial release was not as successful as it deserved, it’s found its place in the hearts of many viewers like me.
Next year, another classic movie is set to receive a remake or reboot. The 1999 horror-comedy “Idle Hands” initially flopped at the box office, but it has since gained a dedicated fanbase and become a cult favorite.
Finn Wolfhard, best known from “Stranger Things,” along with Billy Bryk, have been tapped to create a fresh take on the film “Idle Hands.” This remake is set for release in the summer of 2025. There’s also discussion about their potential involvement in directing the reimagined project. The duo previously collaborated on another horror-comedy, “Hell of a Summer,” which they penned, directed, and starred in together. Their work on “Hell of a Summer” garnered them significant praise, an impressive feat considering their youth; Wolfhard is 22 years old, while Bryk is 25.
Finn Wolfhard gained prominence swiftly due to his role as Mike Wheeler in the Netflix show “Stranger Things”. Prior to this, he had made appearances on shows like “100” and “Supernatural”, but it was “Stranger Things” that turned into a massive success, instantly propelling the young actors to fame.
Apart from “Stranger Things,” he’s also been featured in various other productions that fall under different genres. These include “It” and “It Chapter Two,” “The Turning,” “Rules for Werewolves,” and he provided the voice for Pugsley Addams in the animated adaptation of “The Addams Family.
In case you missed it, I made an appearance in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” but let me tell ya, that wasn’t my first rodeo. I also popped up in the movies “Night Shifts” and “When You Finish Saving the World.” And hey, if you’re a fan of “Wynonna Earp,” you might recognize me as Billy Clanton!
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that the production family for this upcoming game is being finalized by none other than Jason Reitman, who collaborated with Wolfhard and Bryk on Saturday Night Live and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The dynamic duo Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd, also known as Team Todd, are jumping in too, along with Gil Kenan, to produce this game. Can’t wait to see what magic they’ll bring!
In the remade movie “Idle Hands,” Devon Sawa, known for his roles in “Final Destination” and the “Chucky” TV series, Seth Green from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Elden Henson of the “Daredevil” series, Jessica Alba famous for “Machete,” and Vivica A. Fox who appeared in “Kill Bill,” all took part.
The plot of “Idle Hands” revolves around the character of Anton, a teenager who enjoys smoking weed, along with his buddies. However, their casual lifestyle undergoes a dramatic change when Anton’s hand is mysteriously possessed, causing it to murder people.
Is it possible that Sawa might appear in the new Idle Hands?
It’s undecided at this point if Wolfhard and Bryk will be in the new version, but some fans are vocal about wanting Devon Sawa to join the cast. If asked, he likely would agree, and he recently shared a sweet tale on X regarding the announcement of the remake, as well as his son’s response.
