Nikki Glaser got ‘paid well’ to babysit Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann’s children.

In 2007, the actress, then 41 years old, was paid $35 to $40 per hour to babysit Judd and Leslie Apatow’s daughters, Maude and Iris. This was while the Apatows were working on their film, Funny People, which was released in 2009.

During a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, Glaser shared a funny memory: she used to babysit the person she was interviewing, which she found particularly amusing and heartwarming.

She explained that the job paid very well – around $35 to $40 an hour, which was much more than she’d ever earned babysitting before. Plus, she really liked the children; they were sweet and funny.

The comedian recalled a funny moment while babysitting Maude and Iris, who are now 28 and 23. Adam Sandler, a fellow comedian and actor, called while their parents, filmmaker Judd and actress Leslie, were away.

The talk show host recalled a time when Adam Sandler called, but Judd and Leslie weren’t available. When the host answered, Sandler simply said, “Hello?” and the host replied, “Hi.”

Okay, so he answered, and it was him – Adam Sandler! He was all, “Hi, Maude, it’s Adam.” And I totally panicked because I thought it was someone else, like, a parent calling about the kid I was watching. I blurted out, “Oh, you must be the babysitter’s caller!” Then he was so nice, saying, “Oh, I’m so sorry, are you the babysitter? It’s Adam Sandler, by the way. How’s everything going tonight?” Seriously, I almost died right then and there!

Adam Sandler called me while I was babysitting and asked how my night was going. It was the first time we’d spoken, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. I remember thinking it was the kindest call I’d ever received while on the job!

She shared a story about asking Judd Apatow for a role in Funny People while she was babysitting. She also noted that the character Daisy Danby – a 25-year-old, aspiring comedian in Los Angeles who’s a fan of the band Wilco – closely resembled her own life, though the part eventually went to Aubrey Plaza, now 41.

She admitted she was initially embarrassed to take the job, explaining she hadn’t seen it as a way to get other acting opportunities. However, the role turned out to be perfect for her, as the director was specifically looking for authentic, everyday people.

I realized I’d regret not trying, so I decided to go for it. A friend reminded me I hadn’t moved to Los Angeles to just be a babysitter, which convinced me. I auditioned, and it went really well.

The actress, who first appeared on screen as Olympia in the 2009 comedy musical Punching the Clown, is currently co-writing a film with Judd.

Nikki admitted she’d always wanted to work with him. She’d observed him on the set of ‘Trainwreck’ and thought he seemed like a lot of fun, plus she’d always been a fan of his work. However, she never thought she’d have the opportunity and wouldn’t have been brave enough to ask.

He invited me in to discuss some ideas, and we ended up chatting like we’d known each other forever. I started sharing my personal struggles, talking about where I am in life, and how I’m navigating not having children or a traditional family while focusing on my career.

I was single and unsure about getting married, and honestly, I was afraid of long-term commitment. But this one person brought something out of me, and we both thought, ‘Hey, this could make a great movie.’

‘But he got it out of me, I didn’t come in with anything.’

The actress, who has had an on-again, off-again relationship with TV producer Chris Convy since 2013, described her new movie as ‘very funny.’ She also said, like all of his films, it will be emotionally resonant and genuine, with ‘real emotions’ that feel authentic.
