Final Fantasy’s Clive Rosfield is Tekken 8’s first guest character
As an old-school gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can say that the news about Clive Rosfield joining Tekken 8 as its final DLC character for Year 1 has me absolutely thrilled! It’s like a dream come true to see another beloved character from Final Fantasy making its way into one of my all-time favorite fighting games.
In a new development, Tekken 8 is set to feature Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI as its inaugural guest character. This character will serve as the last downloadable content addition for the initial year and will be accessible through early access starting December 19.
In an exciting development, the main character of Final Fantasy XVI, Clive Rosfield, was revealed as the first guest character in Tekken 8 and will be the final DLC character for Year 1. You might remember Noctis from Tekken 7; now it’s Clive’s turn in Tekken 8. Not to forget, Torgal is also part of this adventure!
At The Game Awards 2024, the announcement about Clive Rosfield was made, which happened approximately an hour following Tekken 8 receiving The Best Fighting Game award.
Final Fantasy’s Clive Rosfield is Tekken 8’s first guest character
Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI is set to be the fourth and final downloadable character for Year 1, taking the Winter spot. Interestingly, he will be the first guest character in Tekken 8, although the game director initially stated that there would be no guest characters during this year. However, it’s worth noting that Harada also declared Heihachi to be deceased, but here we are with the head of the Mishima family making a comeback for the celebration of Tekken’s 30th anniversary.
Clive Rosfield gameplay trailer
Based on the short fight scene shown between Clive Rosfield and Jin, it appears that Clive’s narrative in Final Fantasy XVI is heavily tied to fire, as expected. Moreover, Torgal, Clive’s frost wolf ally, makes a brief appearance. Not long after his introduction at The Game Awards 2024, Bandai Namco released a complete gameplay trailer (located above).
In the trailer for Clive’s character, we observe him using his well-known Invictus Sword from Final Fantasy XVI and his unique heat mode, which resembles his Limit Break in FFXVI, where he harnesses the Fire Eikon Phoenix. However, what truly captivates viewers during Clive’s reveal trailer is his Rage Art. By utilizing this ability, Clive can summon Ifrit – a fire deity from the Final Fantasy universe – to obliterate the ground with a fiery meteor, reminiscent of classic Ifrit.
Prior to the official announcement, there were strong hints in the Tekken 8 community that a new guest character might be joining the game. The fact that Bandai Namco opted to unveil the fourth DLC character at The Game Awards 2024 rather than during the Tekken World Tour finals served as a clue for many fans.
Among fans of the Tekken series, it was widely anticipated that Tifa, the female lead from Final Fantasy VII, might be introduced. For newcomers to Tekken, this would mark the second time a character from Final Fantasy has been featured as a guest fighter. In Tekken 7, Noctis, the protagonist of Final Fantasy XV, made an appearance as a downloadable character. After his debut, Noctis quickly became one of the most beloved characters in the game.
Clive Rosfield Tekken 8 release date
On December 16th, you’ll find that Clive Rosfield is available for a 72-hour early access in Tekken 8. However, starting from December 19, 2024, all players will be able to purchase him.
To be part of the 72-hour early access you must be a Year 1 Pass holder.
What was that Clive’s Rage Art?
Based on the quick gameplay demo at The Game Awards 2024, it seems that Clive will be able to invoke Ifrit, a deity of fire from the Final Fantasy universe. In various Final Fantasy games, Ifrit can either be a summon – a mighty being that unleashes a destructive attack once – or a potent character that can be controlled for a limited time before becoming uncontrollable.
In Final Fantasy XVI, Ifrit significantly influences the narrative and is intertwined with Clive’s past and personal development, shedding light on their connection without delving deeper to prevent spoilers.
In most versions of the Final Fantasy series, Ifrit’s unique attack is either a massive meteor or a fiery ball. It appears that Bandai Namco has chosen to uphold this tradition.
Who is Clive Rosfield?
Clive Rosfield serves as the principal character in Square Enix’s action role-playing game (RPG), Final Fantasy XVI. He is a knight who specializes in wielding swords and possesses the ability to draw upon the power of the Phoenix, a divine fire entity within the universe of Final Fantasy XVI. As for his design and character progression, Clive is increasingly regarded as one of the most compelling male protagonists in the entire Final Fantasy series.
