As a huge fan, the original Final Fantasy VII always left me with so many questions, especially about who actually made it out of the ending – did anyone besides Red XIII survive? The sequels and spin-offs in the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 did clear some things up, but honestly, they created a whole new set of mysteries! Now, it looks like one of those long-standing questions might finally be getting an answer, which is incredibly exciting!
Beyond the brief glimpse into the future with Red XIII’s family, the Final Fantasy VII Compilation includes Dirge of Cerberus, an action game focused on Vincent Valentine. In it, he battles a hidden group of enhanced Shinra soldiers. The game ends with Vincent and his allies defeating the Deepground organization and saving the world again, though one significant question remains unanswered.
Ever Crisis Can Follow Up On Dirge Of Cerberus’ Secret Ending
Players who discovered all the hidden files in Dirge of Cerberus were treated to an extra ending. In it, Weiss’s damaged body is taken by an unknown man who implies they have more tasks to complete, before they fly away. This man is revealed to be Genesis Rhapsodos, a former SOLDIER who was Sephiroth’s contemporary and contributed to the events that led to the downfall in Nibelheim.
The main issue is that Dirge of Cerberus is the final, official story in the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7, and what happens afterward hasn’t been explained. However, Square Enix is revisiting the story of Dirge of Cerberus in Ever Crisis, a mobile game that’s retelling the entire Final Fantasy 7 saga. This includes stories, like Before Crisis, that were never released in all regions.
As a huge fan, it’s awesome to see the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 finally wrapping up with Dirge of Cerberus. It feels like Square Enix can give this whole story the ending it deserves, and the best part is, they can do it without messing with the plans for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy that’s still unfolding. It’s a great way to tie everything together!
What Could Happen In Ever Crisis After The Secret Dirge Of Cerberus Ending?
Before the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, many fans wondered if the ambiguous ending of the Crisis Core story involving Genesis would connect to the new game. Theories suggested that Genesis and Weiss might have caused a disruption in time, potentially creating alternate realities.
Throughout both Rebirth and the original Genesis, there are only very slight references to it. Although Crisis Core was updated for modern consoles, the same hasn’t happened with Dirge of Cerberus. If the ending of Dirge of Cerberus was crucial to understanding the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, it would likely be available on current gaming systems.
As a big fan, it always felt like that hidden ending in Dirge of Cerberus was setting up a sequel that just never happened. It seems like the team shifted focus to the remake project, and now Ever Crisis gives them a chance to finally revisit that storyline! Even if it’s just a super challenging boss battle, I’d love to see the Final Fantasy 7 crew team up one last time to completely finish off Shinra.
