Final Destination Producer Calls Out His Most Hated Film in the Franchise!
Veteran producer Craig Perry openly expressed his dislike for one particular film within the horror series. Notably, he was also involved in the production of the coming-of-age comedy titled “American Pie.
In an exclusive sneak peek of Clark Collis’ upcoming book, “Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie,” he reveals that series creator, Wes Craven, candidly admitted that 2009’s The Final Destination was the weakest installment in the franchise. To quote him directly, “I honestly don’t think the fourth one is any good; in fact, it’s downright awful.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the fourth installment of “The Final Destination” series. Much like the director’s perspective, I find myself in agreement with many other fans and critics. Unfortunately, this film has become the lowest-rated movie of the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes, garnering just 28% approval.
Perry also revealed that the creative team had originally believed the 2009 film would be their last, hence the inclusion of “The” in the title. However, despite receiving unfavorable critiques, it remains the highest-earning installment in the series, generating over $186 million globally. “I thought we were finished,” Perry added. “But surprisingly, during its opening weekend, we found ourselves saying, ‘Well, here we go.’ It was successful enough to provide us an opportunity to make amends with [Final Destination 5].
The iconic horror series is experiencing a revival following the launch of its newest installment, which has garnered critical acclaim. Since its premiere in cinemas, it stands alone as the only “Final Destination” film to receive a stellar rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, it boasts an impressive 92% Tomatometer score, based on 166 reviews.
The latest film was helmed by directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who wrote the script along with Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. The talented cast features Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, and Brec Bassinger, alongside horror legend Tony Todd in his final role as William Bludworth.
What’s Next for the Final Destination Franchise?
Previously, Stein acknowledged that they haven’t come up with any plans for the next film in the Final Destination series, stating that they’ve been focusing on using their best concepts for this current project. In other words, “The business of death continues. There are always more debts to collect“. As of now, they don’t have a lot of fresh, innovative ideas for the next installment.
In other words, Perry mentioned that they might let the fans decide the future of the franchise. “We felt fortunate to be able to produce another film,” he added. “If I’m correct in assuming that the fans will react positively, as I truly hope they do, because we put great effort into creating this film specifically for them, then there could potentially be more opportunities.
Final Destineation Bloodlines is currently playing in theaters.
