Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Shocking Garbage Truck Kill Behind-the-Scenes Reveal
The following article contains major spoilers for Final Destination Bloodlines.
The continuing success of “Final Destination: Bloodlines” at the box office, accompanied by the strange ceiling collapse event during a showing in Argentina, demonstrates that audiences have been anxiously anticipating another installment in the “Final Destination” series.
One primary factor that contributed to the success of the sequel is its innovative portrayal of death as an incredibly inventive antagonist. The movie “Final Destination: Bloodlines” certainly lives up to this concept with intricate and excessively gruesome deaths. Although the garbage truck scene may not be the most elaborate kill in the series, it stands out as a fantastic demonstration of the film’s stunning special effects. The creators of “Bloodlines” have been sharing behind-the-scenes videos to give fans a glimpse into the making of some of the sequel’s goriest scenes, and in a recent video, co-director Adam Stein has revealed the method they employed to make Julia’s death particularly shocking.
On Instagram, Stein shared an extensive breakdown of the method behind the intriguing effect they created. It’s possible that computer-generated imagery (CGI) was employed for the shot, but real-life effects were also utilized during the gruesome scene. In the video linked below, you can observe a part of the collapsing structure seemingly splitting Stein in half during rehearsal. Keep in mind, this may cause unease for some viewers. And now for Julia’s head crush in the garbage truck.
The incredible SPFX team at @pacwestspfx built the inside of a garbage truck with a very special feature… a crusher that retracts when it goes around a head. Metal rods with rubber tips formed a flat surface.
This video shows me testing it out in prep to make sure it was comfortable enough for @anna_lore to use on the day.
We filled the interior with trash and Anna climbed around in there — we threw her in garbage and crushed her head on her first day of the shoot!
After her head was “crushed,” the amazing VFX team replaced the metal rods with a metal plate, erasing the magic trick. And of course, they added all the juicy bits. We tried crushing a makeup SPFX head of Anna as well but it didn’t look as good as this gag.
The most amazing piece of trivia here: Anna’s performance was so intense that as she “died” she actually cried a single tear… and it’s in the movie! It’s hard to see it through all the blood but it’s there!

In the latest installment of the horror series, titled “Final Destination Bloodlines,” the narrative takes a new twist. Instead of a motley group linked by their narrow escape from death, this tale revolves around a family. It transpires that Grandma Iris, who was destined to perish in her youth, miraculously dodged death due to a prophetic vision. However, after her demise, it becomes clear that the Grim Reaper will target Iris’s descendants as retribution for her earlier escape from fate. According to the movie’s official summary, this is the gist of the plot.
Tortured by a persistent nightmare of violence, a college student journeys back home in search of the one individual who possesses the power to halt this recurring nightmare and shield their family from the grim destiny that seems unavoidable.
Is ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ the End of the ‘Final Destination’ Franchise?
Just over two weeks have gone by since I saw “Final Destination: Bloodlines” at the cinema. It’s likely that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures are still assessing the impressive results – with a staggering $186.7 million at the box office and a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it both the most profitable and highest-rated film in the series. Given its success, I can’t help but think that a new installment within the “Final Destination” universe is all but inevitable. With so much story left to tell and a dedicated fanbase eagerly awaiting more, I don’t see this horror franchise running out of steam anytime soon.
In contrast to the original movie from 2000, and despite not having a post-credits scene, the ending of Bloodlines provided a satisfying conclusion without any loose ends. Every character met their end, thus fulfilling the theme of death. Yet, one might wonder if there aren’t more tales to spin, considering the writers’ potential for inventing numerous gruesome scenarios for demise.
