The directors of the horror film Final Destination Bloodlines are now working on a new time travel movie for Paramount Pictures. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, who successfully directed Final Destination Bloodlines, the sixth film in the Final Destination series, will be involved. Michiel Blanchart is set to direct a follow-up project.
Deadline reports that directors Lipovsky and Stein are close to signing on to direct Paramount’s new time travel movie, titled The Traveler. They were previously known for Final Destination Bloodlines. Originally, Lee Isaac Chung was set to direct, but he left the project, likely because he’s now working on a prequel to Ocean’s Eleven.
Justin Rhodes, who previously worked on Terminator: Dark Fate, wrote the screenplay for the film. Adam Rosenberg of Aro Pictures and Rodney Rothman will produce it. Directors Lipovsky and Stein shared that they’ve been eager to work on this project for a long time and are thrilled to finally have the chance.
It’s unusual to find a script you truly connect with. I’d been asking my agents about this particular project for six years, checking in every six months. So, as soon as it became available again, we immediately pitched to direct it – it was a project we’d really wanted for a long time.
Adam Stein describes “The Traveler’s” as a fresh science fiction story with relatable characters and a thought-provoking message.
The upcoming movie, The Traveler, is based on a new book by Joseph Eckert. The story centers around Scott Treder, a 47-year-old biology technician who unexpectedly starts traveling through time. A script for the film was originally written by Austin Everett in 2019 and quickly gained attention.
Lipovsky and Stein are working on several projects, including The Traveler. They are co-writing the upcoming Gremlins 3, scheduled to be released on November 19, 2027, and directing the films Long Lost and The Earthling. They’ve also recently finished filming Freaks Underground, a sequel to their 2018 film Freaks.
Although we don’t know much about The Traveler yet, Lipovsky and Stein are working on a lot of different projects, suggesting they have the capacity to take it on. Considering their previous work on Final Destination Bloodlines – which focused on characters and featured a lot of gore, raising the bar for the series – they’ll probably make sure this time travel movie delivers on what audiences expect.
The film The Traveler has generated interest from multiple studios, and the involvement of directors Lipovsky and Stein is a positive step. However, because they are also working with other studios besides Paramount, it’s uncertain when this movie will be completed compared to their other projects.
