Actor Jeremy Renner, known for his roles in the “Avengers” movies and the HBO show “Mayor of Kingstown,” is being accused of inappropriate behavior by filmmaker Yi Zhou.
Last week, Zhou publicly accused actor Jeremy Renner of sending her unwanted pornographic images starting in June. She claims their relationship began with phone calls and texts, but their first time meeting physically was not consensual. While later encounters were consensual, Zhou says the initial incident was deeply upsetting. She also alleges Renner threatened to report her immigration status to ICE, leaving her shocked and frightened.
A spokesperson for Renner denied the claims on Sunday, stating they are completely false.
Zhou’s Instagram posts feature screenshots of alleged conversations with Jeremy Renner and private photos of the actor, and many of these posts include the hashtag “#CancelJeremyRenner.”
Zhou, a filmmaker originally from China now living in Los Angeles, has directed two movies: the documentary “Masters of Cinema: Chronicles of Disney” and the animated film “Stardust Future.” She states that actor Renner was involved in “Stardust Future” but later declined to help promote it.

After a serious accident that almost took his life, Jeremy Renner’s return to the show “Mayor of Kingstown” wasn’t guaranteed. However, he credits a team of supportive people with helping him return for Season 3.
According to reports, Jeremy Renner’s lawyer, Marty Singer, sent a letter on Friday demanding that a woman named Zhou stop spreading what he called false and sensational claims. Singer’s office didn’t respond to a request for comment on Sunday.
I’ve been following the unfolding situation with Zhou and Jeremy Renner, and her recent statements really shed light on why she decided to go public. She’s made it clear this isn’t about getting even, but about being honest and setting the record straight. She feels she has every right to defend her professional standing, establish clear boundaries, and push back against what she sees as unfair and twisted reporting. In fact, she even shared a copy of a cease-and-desist letter she allegedly sent to Renner, demanding he stop any behavior that could be considered verbally abusive, like yelling or intimidation. It’s a pretty serious escalation, and it paints a very different picture of what’s been going on behind the scenes.
In a 2025 interview with the Guardian about his memoir, “My Last Breath” – which details the near-fatal snowcat accident he suffered in 2023 – Jeremy Renner addressed and refuted prior claims of wrongdoing. These claims, involving allegations of substance abuse and a threatening statement, had surfaced during a custody battle with his former wife, Sonni Pacheco, over their daughter, Ava.
It’s upsetting to be falsely accused of something, and that feeling is amplified when you’re a public figure, as everyone knows about it,” Renner explained.
