Filming for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot has officially kicked off

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast with over three decades under my belt, I must say that the upcoming reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has me absolutely thrilled! The franchise has been a staple in my horror movie collection since its inception, and the prospect of a fresh take on this classic story is nothing short of exhilarating.

Filming has started for the eagerly awaited reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and everyone is abuzz with anticipation. This new version of the popular horror series promises fresh perspectives, and it’s set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025, courtesy of Sony Pictures. Make sure to mark your calendars because this chilling thriller is one you wouldn’t want to miss!

Through an update on their official X account, we’ve been informed that filming for the movie has begun. The post additionally hinted at a summer 2025 release date.

The reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is being labeled as a sequel that continues the storyline from the original films, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (1997) and its follow-up “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998). The franchise also includes the standalone sequel “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” (2006), as well as a short-lived television series adaptation of the same name in 2021.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, famously recognized for her work on Netflix films like “Someone Great” and “Do Revenge”, will take the helm as director for the upcoming reboot. The screenplay for this project is a joint effort between Robinson and Sam Lanksy. At present, details about the plot remain under wraps. However, we can anticipate seeing several familiar actors in the film, including Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nicholas, Gabbriette, and Billy Campbell.

As a gamer excitedly waiting for the reboot, I can’t help but share the news that Freddie Prinze Jr. will once again embody Ray Bronson, a role he mastered in the first two films. While official word is still out, it seems that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood might be joining him as Julie James and Karla Wilson respectively. Unfortunately, Camila Mendes had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Can’t wait to see how this all unfolds!
