Fetty Wap, rapper who ‘made it out’ of his N.J. hometown, leaves federal prison early

Fetty Wap is free from federal prison as of Thursday, 11 months ahead of his scheduled release.

Fetty Wap, whose real name is William Junior Maxwell II, admitted to conspiring to sell illegal drugs in August 2022. As part of his six-year sentence, handed down in 2023, he will also be under supervision for five years.

On Thursday, the 34-year-old shared a simple message on their Instagram story: just the word “Home” written in white against a black background.

He recently shared that he’s prioritizing giving back to the community through his foundation, focusing on helping vulnerable children. This includes providing more opportunities in education, teaching valuable tech skills, and ensuring access to vision care, all so they can thrive. He also expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and fans for their continued support.

According to TMZ, he’ll be under house arrest in Philadelphia until November 8th. After that, he must remain sober from alcohol and drugs for the next five years, unless a doctor prescribes medication. The court may also require him to attend an outpatient drug program if they deem it necessary. While under supervision, he’ll be regularly tested for drug use and won’t be able to open a bank account or share his income and tax information without approval from federal agents.

I was shocked to hear about Fetty Wap’s arrest back in October 2021 – it happened right before he was supposed to perform at Rolling Loud in New York! Apparently, he and five other guys were accused of dealing some really serious stuff – cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack. The charges weren’t just about the drugs either; the other five defendants also faced accusations of having guns connected to the alleged drug operation. It’s a really sad situation, especially for a musician I used to enjoy.

Rapper Fetty Wap is still being held by authorities after entering a plea of not guilty to a federal drug charge. He could face a prison sentence of 10 years to life if found guilty.

The performer was initially released from custody after paying a $500,000 bail while his trial was pending. However, he was rearrested two months later for making a threatening video call, which officials said broke the conditions of his release. He then pleaded guilty in August 2022.

I was really surprised to hear that the rapper behind “My Way” got six years in prison back in May 2023. It turns out he was involved in a drug operation, and on top of the sentence, he’ll be under supervision for another five years after he gets out.

He told the judge that his pride and self-centeredness led to his current situation. His attorneys explained he began selling drugs due to money problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Defense attorney Elizabeth Macedonio stated, “This is a truly sad day.” She explained that the defendant was a young man from Paterson, New Jersey, who had managed to overcome difficult circumstances.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn stated that Fetty Wap acted as a major supplier, distributing large amounts of drugs for his criminal group.

From June 2019 to June 2020, the group distributed over 100 kilograms (about 220 pounds) of various drugs, including cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine. During the investigation, authorities also found around $1.5 million in cash, 16 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of heroin, a large number of fentanyl pills, and several firearms – including two 9mm handguns, a rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, and a .40 caliber pistol – along with ammunition.

According to authorities, the defendants acquired illegal drugs on the West Coast and shipped them across the country to Suffolk County using the postal service and drivers who had secret compartments in their vehicles. Once in Suffolk County, the drugs were stored and then sold to dealers who distributed them on Long Island and in New Jersey.

Fetty Wap did his time at a low-security federal prison in Sandstone, Minn., north of Minneapolis.
