Fern Britton’s weight loss secrets: How life-changing steps helped the This Morning legend, 68, drop five stone after years of dieting struggles

She has openly talked about her lifelong challenges with weight, saying it has varied quite a bit over the years, ranging from a size 22 to a size 12.

After leaving her long-running role on This Morning and embracing a more relaxed lifestyle in Cornwall, Fern Britton has prioritized her well-being and taken charge of her health.

The 68-year-old TV personality, who has been prioritizing her health and fitness, recently revealed the three things that helped her lose five stone.

Last Year Fern shared insight into her journey amid rumours of Ozempic usage.

She recently shared with Woman&Home magazine that people frequently ask if significant weight loss was achieved without assistance.

‘And I can look at you and say, “Yes, I have.”‘

A few years after shoulder surgery, Fern thought about how far she’d come and decided it was time to prioritize her health again.

I realized I needed to make some serious changes in my life. I wanted to quit smoking and drinking, improve my diet, and stop wasting time feeling down.

Fern embarked on the Couch to 5K programme, which is an NHS app that helps people get into running.

In September, Fern shared an update with her followers about her running, letting them know she’d successfully completed a 6.5 kilometer run.

She shared with her followers that she ran for 40 minutes, starting and ending with a five-minute walk to warm up and cool down.

Okay, so my run today was AMAZING! It took me 50 minutes total, but I was actually running for a full 40 of those! And get this – I clocked 6.5 kilometers! Seriously, I’m so thrilled, it was way better than I expected!

Fern regularly works on building her strength and has posted several photos of her home gym setup online.

In April, the presenter looked happy and took a selfie after a weightlifting session, using both dumbbells and a barbell.

I was so impressed seeing her! She looked incredible in a long-sleeved pink top with those sleek black cycling shorts. It’s amazing to see how well she’s been doing and how fantastic she looks – her weight loss is really showing!

Fern previously told Hello magazine that she was focused on getting stronger after a serious infection (sepsis) developed following a hysterectomy in 2016.

After having four children and everything my body has endured, I’ve noticed my arms and legs—and even my core—are much stronger now.

‘I was really close to dying, and yet you can still get up and go out and run and be strong again.’

In addition to activities like running, biking, walking, and weight training, Fern has significantly improved her diet by reducing her sugar consumption by 80%.

She told Woman&Home: ‘I started to think about what I was eating, which I had never done before.’

She emphasized that having three good meals each day is really important when cycling in Italy, because you’ll need plenty of energy.

In October, Fern shared snaps from her trip to Italy for a cycling holiday.

The presenter couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she posed for a photo with a friend.

She shared a post about a wonderful week in Italy with her close friends, the ‘Bike Buddies,’ who she’s known for 20 years. She expressed her love for them in the caption.

Many fans complimented Fern on her impressive weight loss and youthful look, with some writing things like ‘You look amazing, Fern!’

The presenter made her Cornish holiday home her permanent residence five years ago and has been gradually renovating it since then.

Fern’s latest novel, A Cornish Legacy, took her two years to complete – a significantly longer writing process than her usual timeframe.

Fern has always loved telling stories. She published her first novel, New Beginnings, in 2011, a couple of years after finishing her work on the TV show This Morning.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, she’s written extensively, publishing Daughters Of Cornwall in 2020, The Good Servant in 2022, and A Cornish Legacy in May 2025.
