Fern Britton’s Inspiring Transformation: From Heartbreak to Happiness at 67!

Over the past few years, she’s been deeply affected by a series of challenging events. Her long-term marriage to Phil Vickery ended, followed by the passing of both her parents, and constant reminders of her disagreement with Phillip Schofield.

It appears that Fern Britton has managed to stabilize things for herself, living a healthy, solitary life near the coast of Cornwall.

The presenter, aged 67, spends time with her pets Dr Iain Mackerel and Barbara, along with her cherished daughters Grace and Winnie. In this setting, she writes touching novels and shares her remarkable physical transformation on Instagram.

Five years ago, things were vastly different for Fern, who, as she shared with Femail, found herself struggling following the deaths of her parents Ruth and Tony in 2018 and 2019, and the announcement of her divorce from Phil in January 2020.

Then Covid hit, bringing months of ‘indolence’ worsened by an excruciating shoulder injury.

Following the recent news about my longstanding dispute with my ex-co-host Philip on This Morning, which resurfaced after his departure from ITV, I found myself revisiting a host of unpleasant recollections that I had thought long buried. As a lifestyle expert, I believe it’s essential to acknowledge and learn from past experiences, especially when they have such a significant impact on one’s life.

Now, a more cheerful-looking Fern is now riding the crest of a wave after making some big changes.

Writing novels

As a devoted enthusiast of storytelling, I’ve been captivated by this art form since 2011, marking the publication of my debut novel, New Beginnings. This creative endeavor came to fruition exactly two years following my departure from This Morning.

Due to the pandemic, she has been quite productive with her writing, publishing “Daughters Of Cornwall” in 2020 and “The Good Servant” two years after that. Her upcoming work, “A Cornish Legacy”, is scheduled for release in June.

On Instagram, the popular author of Sunday Times bestsellers unveiled the cover for their upcoming book, teasing another thrilling journey through history along the southwestern coastline.

In a caption, Fern enthusiastically revealed: “Greetings all! I’m thrilled to unveil the cover of my upcoming novel, ‘A Cornish Legacy’. It will be available in hardcover, eBook, and audio formats starting in June.

‘Enter Wilder Hoo House and discover its secrets!

Tucked along the dramatic cliffs of Cornwall’s Atlantic shoreline unfolds an endearing tale of fresh starts and discovering a sense of belonging in the most unexpected places…

‘You can pre-order A Cornish Legacy with the link in my bio! Love, Fern. x #ACornishLegacy’

Quickly, she found herself inundated with heartening remarks from admirers of her ten preceding novels. Some were even effusive about the ‘gorgeous’ cover design and expressing excitement for another ‘potential bestseller’.

Regarding her latest book, the celebrity shared with Femail: “The main theme is, ‘A woman who has lost everything inherits a dilapidated house. Can they help each other?’ A friend of mine recently commented, ‘That sounds like your life.’ To which I replied, ‘Indeed!’

The most recent endeavor is a follow-up to her book “The Older I Get…: How I Repowered My Life,” published in November, which outlines her experiences and strategies for overcoming the hurdles she faced in recent times.

Once more, she shared on Instagram about her upcoming book, as evidenced by a series of videos hinting at her writing process at her workstation.

Weight loss journey

Additionally, Fern is transitioning past challenging periods by exercising at her personal fitness center and displaying her remarkable progress on various social platforms.

On Wednesday, she displayed her body transformation in an Instagram mirror selfie.

In a captivating ensemble, the presenter shone brightly wearing a stylish pink long-sleeved blouse and snug fitting black bicycle shorts, proudly displaying her recent weight loss transformation.

Here’s my take: I beamed with pride as I captured a selfie post my weightlifting session, having lifted an assortment of weights ranging from dumbbells to a barbell loaded with weights on both ends.

Instead of starting a new fitness routine, it appears that Fern is transforming one of her rooms into a personal gym, with an assortment of weights scattered across the floor.

Back in January, Fern shared that she had embarked on a fresh fitness routine encompassing activities such as jogging, biking, strolling, and weightlifting.

She said: ‘I’ve started running again and gone back to couch to 5K.

Starting off the new year with a brand-new fitness routine! Towards the latter part of the year, I plan to hike a brief section of the South West Coast Path that spans roughly a week.

‘I’ll soon catch up with my friend who’s about to walk the entire 360-mile coastal trail. Meanwhile, I’m getting ready by going for walks during the week, carrying a weighted backpack and wearing in my boots.’

Beginning next week, I plan to exercise regularly. I’ll go for a run two or three times a week, resume cycling, and incorporate weight training sessions to strengthen my arms and shoulders.

In 2006, Fern embarked on an incredible weight transformation journey. She opted for a gastric band surgery that led her to reduce from a size 22 to a 12, and shed approximately 5 stone in the process.

She’s been steadily losing weight, thanks to her commitment to exercising at her home gym, tackling the Couch to 5k program that turned her into a frequent runner, and giving up a very unhealthy habit altogether.

She is also a fan of bike rides, yoga and long walks.

After completing the Couch to 5K program, the writer continued to run three days a week, spending approximately 45 minutes on each session.

After receiving approval to resume weight lifting following a shoulder injury, the presenter expressed her eagerness to return to the gym as well.

In the past, I’ve found that taking a gradual, consistent approach to a challenge really boosts my confidence. Before long, I was managing to run for a few minutes longer with each attempt, and my legs felt increasingly robust.

To kick off the new year, Fern announced that she had resumed running and re-joined the couch to 5K program. She also mentioned that this year would bring a fresh fitness routine for her. Later in the year, she intends to walk a segment of the southwest coast path, which should take around a week to complete.

My buddy is planning to hike the entire 360-mile coastal trail, while I’ve been preparing by taking walks during the week, carrying a backpack with extra weight and wearing my boots to break them in.

As a dedicated advocate of holistic wellness, allow me to share my personal plan for rejuvenation. I’ve decided to rekindle my passion for physical fitness. This revitalizing journey includes running, roughly three times a week, to boost cardiovascular health and overall stamina. Additionally, I aim to get back on my bicycle, embracing the wind in my hair as I pedal towards better endurance. Lastly, I’ll be incorporating weight training into my routine to fortify my upper body strength. Here’s to a stronger, more vibrant me!

Instead of sticking with her usual diet, she decided to boost her nutritional intake by consuming more protein-rich foods and vegetables, opting for wholesome choices rather than indulging in less healthy snack options.

She acknowledged the benefit, saying previously: ‘I once again found the feeling of satiety.

The part of your mind responsible for feeling satisfied after eating – I’ve been particularly skilled at ignoring it for a long time.

As an ardent devotee, I exclaimed: “If we can skillfully blend meals packed with fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and beneficial fats, while keeping a distance from processed foods, sugars, and excessive salts, we’re not just indulging in a momentary delight but setting ourselves up for long-term success!

Towards the end of last year, the host shared that she had undergone a significant change in her lifestyle due to some distressing experiences during the lockdown period.

Earlier on, it was disclosed that Fern faced difficulties finding a reason to rise from bed each day, leading her to adopt harmful habits such as smoking, excessive drinking, and unhealthy eating.

Later, she began to observe that her body was experiencing health repercussions due to the extra pounds she had put on and the difficulty she faced in breathing.

Reflecting on it now, I find myself acknowledging that I was trapped in a deep abyss. Bit by bit, I managed to inch my way out, climbing up from the depths.

One evening, Fern reached a turning point when, due to an excessive number of cigarettes, she felt so unwell that she had to stop her journey and vomit in a nearby field, which ultimately prompted her decision to quit smoking.

She now has regular therapy sessions and is exercising again.

Spending time with family

2020 saw a heartbreaking end to Fern’s 22-year marriage with Phil, leaving her deeply saddened. The subsequent Covid-19 lockdowns further intensified the sense of solitude she felt.

In a recent episode of James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen, Fern, the mother of 22-year-old Winnie who she shares with her former partner, expressed that life is going well for her because, as a single individual, she no longer has anyone around to pass judgment on her.

She shared that she enjoys spending her mornings watching as much daytime TV as she pleases without fear of judgment. Since there’s no need to dress or put on makeup, it’s a relaxing time for her.

She continued, expressing joyfully, ‘Now I run my own business, a situation I find terrific in all aspects, as it gives me control over both my life and work. It’s wonderful to be my own boss and relish the freedom it offers.’

Previously a popular host on “This Morning,” she currently resides with her feline companions, Barbara and Dr. Iain Mackerel. She frequently shares adorable photos of them on Instagram, provided they remain still long enough.

Recently, a photo emerged showing Dr. Iain catching up on sleep during the day, following a long night at work. He was lounging comfortably on the couch, which brought joy to many of Fern’s Instagram fans.

She titled her post: “Doctor Iain Mackerel has worked a night shift and is now enjoying a filling meal and nap at home. He sends his greetings!

In the Britton household, you’ll frequently find Barbara snuggled either beneath the couch or near the fireplace, evidently enjoying a warm and comfortable setting.

Previously, Fern, the mother of twins Harry and Jack, aged 29, as well as Grace, 26, who she had with her former spouse Clive Jones, acknowledged that she felt lost and found it challenging to manage following her divorce from Phil.

On Morning Live, Fern shared: “The past seven years have been quite challenging for me. I’ve experienced the loss of both my parents, a divorce, the pandemic, and at times, I felt like I was losing myself as well.

She went on saying: “I struggled a lot dealing with those things, as I was overeating, and not getting enough physical activity.

Struggling at the moment. Then I realized, I need to regain my strength, and that’s when the term “re-energizing” popped into my mind.

Speaking candidly about her dating experiences, Fern stated: ‘We have control over our love lives today. Looking back, things seemed more carefree when we were younger. It was real romance – now it feels like swiping through options, which I dislike and choose not to participate in.’

I really enjoyed attending parties and looked forward to making new acquaintances. However, I no longer wish to encounter strangers, nor do I desire invitations to large-scale gatherings.

Additionally, Fern often hosts visits from her girls Winnie and Grace; they recently dined in Looe during the current month and shared a heartwarming picture of their gathering on social media.

Not too long ago, the joyful threesome reunited, and they each showed off bright grins while taking a photograph together.
