Felicity Jones flashes sideboob in a yellow satin gown as she leads early British and Irish arrivals on the Oscars 2026 red carpet

As the 2026 Academy Awards began on Sunday, British and Irish actors like Felicity Jones were among the first to arrive, immediately making a strong impression alongside Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Although the actress wasn’t nominated for an award this year, she still turned heads in a beautiful yellow satin dress with striking slits up the sides.

Felicity arrived at the event in a stunning gown, subtly revealing a bit of cleavage as she posed for photos.

Conan O’Brien will host the event where the games Sinners, One Battle After Another, and Hamnet will compete for a prestigious golden statue.

Amelia Dimoldenberg, known for her show Chicken Shop Date, was one of the first celebrities to walk the red carpet this year. She looked stunning in a glamorous black dress with a peplum waist and posed for photos.

As a huge movie fan, I’m so excited for the 98th Academy Awards! They’re honoring all the incredible films from 2025, and the ceremony will be held at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It’s going to be a fantastic night!

Conan O’Brien, age 62, will host the show again this year, marking his second year in a row. He took over hosting duties from Jimmy Kimmel.

Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ received an unprecedented 16 Academy Award nominations, making it the most nominated film ever in the awards’ history.

The scary movie is nominated for Best Picture, along with nine other films: Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.

Michael B. Jordan, known for his role in ‘Sinners’, is up for Best Actor alongside Timothée Chalamet (‘Marty Supreme’), Leonardo DiCaprio (‘One Battle After Another’), Ethan Hawke (‘Blue Moon’), and Wagner Moura (‘The Secret Agent’). It’s a very competitive field!

Sinners, a film set in 1930s Mississippi, tells the story of twin brothers – both portrayed by the same actor, Jordan – who come home to discover a terrifying supernatural force at work.

The competition for Best Actor is incredibly close right now. Timothée Chalamet seemed like the frontrunner after winning the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards, but Michael Jordan gained significant ground with his win at the Actor Awards (previously known as the SAG Awards).

The event is happening shortly after Timothée Chalamet made comments that many found offensive – he suggested people aren’t interested in ballet or opera, which caused a strong reaction from those in the arts.

Josh Safdie’s film, Marty Supreme, inspired by the life of ping-pong star Marty Reisman, features Timothée Chalamet as a talented young table tennis player in 1950s New York. His drive to win a world championship puts a strain on his relationships with those around him.

Jessie Buckley, the acclaimed Irish actress, is currently the favorite to win Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet. She’s up against strong competition from Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I would Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

Directed by Chloe Zhao, who won Best Director in 2021, Hamnet offers a new look at William Shakespeare’s personal life. The film explores how the loss of his 11-year-old son deeply affected him and inspired his famous play, Hamlet.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another earned 13 nominations.

The film received a Best Director nomination, and Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor. Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn also received nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

This darkly humorous action thriller centers on a former revolutionary (DiCaprio) who’s been living in hiding. He’s pulled back into the world when his old enemy, a dishonest military officer (Penn), targets his daughter, forcing him to come to her rescue.

In addition to Penn and del Toro, Jacob Elordi (for his role in Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (from Sinners), and Stellan Skarsgard (in Sentimental Value) are also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Many people were surprised that Paul Mescal (for his role in Hamnet), Adam Sandler (for Jay Kelly), and Jesse Plemons (for Bugonia) weren’t nominated. These omissions were particularly talked about.

Frankenstein and Sentimental Value both earned nine nominations at this year’s ceremony.

Guillermo del Toro’s take on Frankenstein beautifully retells Mary Shelley’s story, centering on the deeply emotional journey of a creature longing for acceptance and the painful rejection he faces from his creator.

Joachim Trier’s film, Sentimental Value, tells the story of two sisters who must come to terms with their long-separated father, a filmmaker.

The contenders for Best Supporting Actress are Elle Fanning for her role in ‘Sentimental Value,’ Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas also from ‘Sentimental Value,’ Amy Madigan in ‘Weapons,’ Wunmi Mosaku from ‘Sinners,’ and Teyana Taylor in ‘One Battle After Another’.

Fans were very upset when Ariana Grande wasn’t nominated for a supporting role in Wicked: For Good.

She had been nominated last year for her work in the first film of the musical franchise.

Wicked: For Good was completely shut out of nominations. This came despite an acclaimed leading performance by Cynthia Erivo, as well as new songs written for the film, including No Place Like Home and The Girl In The Bubble.

Gwyneth Paltrow was also left off the list in the category for her work in Marty Supreme.

A new award for Best Casting was announced this year. The first nominees are Nina Gold for ‘Hamnet’, Jennifer Venditti for ‘Marty Supreme’, Cassandra Kulukundis for ‘One Battle After Another’, Gabriel Domingues for ‘The Secret Agent’, and Francine Maisler for ‘Sinners’.

The event starts at 7pm Eastern Time / 4pm Pacific Time and will be broadcast live on ABC. You can also watch it live on Hulu, or through streaming services like Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV.
