Fear Street: Prom Queen ending explained – who is the killer and why?
The movie “Fear Street: Prom Queen” has made its bloody debut on Netflix, keeping up with the successful horror trilogy from last year.
The next installment transports us to Shadyside once more, but this time it’s 1988 and Shadyside High is hosting its grand prom celebration. However, being Shadyside, there’s a murderer at large who’s determined that the competition for prom queen becomes a gruesome affair.
Instead of asking, “But who is the killer and why are they committing these crimes?”, we can rephrase it as, “Who’s behind the killings and what motivates them?” Let’s dive right in by exploring the most shocking plot twists from Fear Street: Prom Queen. Be warned, there are major spoilers ahead.

Fear Street: Prom Queen ending explained
Without beating around the bush, it’s Tiffany’s parents, Nancy and Dan, who are revealed as the killers in Fear Street: Prom Queen.
Tiffany is also fully cognizant of the fact that her parents were trying to manipulate her crowning as prom queen through underhanded means; I’ll elaborate on that later.
At first glance, it appears that just a single murderer is at large. Yet, when Melissa meets her fate, it becomes clear that there are in fact two dangerous killers on the prowl.
In the end, it was Dan who was exposed as one of the murderers when he attempted to harm Lori’s closest friend, Megan. However, things took an unexpected turn as Lori, having just been crowned prom queen, impaled Dan in the eye with her new tiara instead.
It appears that Dan got involved because he genuinely desired Tiffany to become the prom queen: “I could see how much importance you both attached to it. In the end, people don’t recall the specifics; they just remember who won.
His scheme unraveled after Lori won the title of prom queen. Interestingly, Nancy too had harbored the desire for her daughter to become prom queen, but it was revealed that she had an even more intimate motive for wanting to eliminate Lori.
At the prom, Tiffany manages to convince Lori to spend the night with her instead. However, things take a turn for the worse when Nancy arrives home brandishing a knife. The situation worsens further when Tiffany, in an attempt to protect herself and Lori, decides to attack Lori while they’re hiding from Nancy inside a closet.
It doesn’t appear that Tiffany was the one who murdered anyone at the prom, given that her parents probably took turns to maintain a facade, thereby protecting Tiffany from any suspicions about her potential involvement.
In another wording, Nancy betrayally stabs Lori in an attempt to escape, which eventually prompts her confession that she was the culprit behind the murder of Lori’s father, a crime committed while her mother was carrying Lori. It was Lori’s mother who was falsely accused of killing her husband, thereby bringing disgrace upon the family name in Shadyside.
And it was all because Nancy was with Lori’s dad first.
As you well know, he was all mine before your mom entered the picture. It seems like the Granger family has a habit of claiming what’s not theirs. I was the last person he looked at before he passed away.
As I blunder, I mistakenly allow Tiffany to slay Lori. In my haste, I kick Tiffany, causing her to lose balance and plummet over the railing. The unfortunate result is that she lands impaled upon a nearby statue.
In a moment when Nancy was taken aback, Lori seizes the opportunity to grab the trophy and strike Nancy forcefully over the head with it, ultimately causing Nancy’s death.
In a mid-credits sequence, it’s revealed that Nancy isn’t alive, yet it’s uncertain whether her malicious actions can be blamed on her personally due to some unknown circumstances. The crimson fluid leaking from her head forms the shape of the witch’s symbol we saw in the initial trilogy, hinting that she, too, might have been another Shadyside resident afflicted by a curse.
Just in case you’ve forgotten, the Shadyside curse originated when the Goode family struck a bargain with the Devil back in 1666. In this agreement, they pledged to sacrifice a “single soul” occasionally to ensure their family’s wealth and success.
This enchantment transformed the selected spirit into a cold-blooded killer, allowing the Demon to sustain itself with the victims’ life force. As the curse remained unbroken until 1994, Nancy unfortunately fell prey to this cursed fate.
No excuse for her husband Dan though, to be honest.
