Fear Street Easter Egg in Prom Queen Trailer Sparks Excitement and Major Concerns!
Growing up in an era where Fear Street books were just as common as Calvin & Hobbes collections at book fairs, the release of Netflix’s 2021 terrifying adaptations brought a thrill to my heart that felt like rekindling an old flame. And now, seeing the announcement video for Fear Street: Prom Queen’s, which is set to debut in May 2025, has me excited all over again about what’s coming next.
After watching the trailer, I find myself both excited – it appears this new slasher homage is going to be fantastic – and apprehensive about where the series might go next. By the way, that timestamp on the trailer suggests the prom will take place on a particularly chaotic Monday.
Fear Street: Prom Queen’s Easter Egg Invokes The Spirit Of Fear Street: Part 2 – 1978
Oh my, I can’t wait to see another “Fear Street” movie! It seems like director/co-writer Matt Palmer has put together an entertaining sequel to Leigh Janiak’s earlier “Fear Street” trilogy, filled with fashion of the time and clever song choices. However, remember that we’re talking about Shadyside here, where the ancient curse that haunts the town is still very much active.

Viewing that brief snapshot of the Camp Nightwing mural depicted earlier brings a mix of delight and apprehension. Although we’re familiar with how Fear Street: Part 2 – 1978’s ending influenced the broader narrative, exploring the impact of those events on the town’s youth a decade later certainly seems intriguing. However, this continuation makes me ponder about potential future developments – an issue that stirs up a particular bone of contention within me.

I Hope Future Fear Street Installments Don’t Bypass Standalone Stories Just For Connective Tissue
In a series like Fear Street, I highly appreciate continuity because it gives me the freedom to rewatch its gripping violence whenever I desire, thanks to my Netflix subscription. However, reflecting on R.L. Stine’s anthology approach for this universe makes me miss standalone stories as well.
Indeed, I adored the trilogy storylines that kept reappearing; it’s one of the reasons I can’t stop praising The Cataluna Chronicles for deserving the same movie adaptation as The Prom Queen received. However, standalone stories like this 1992 piece, along with many others such as Double Date and The Wrong Number, served as individual tales set within the Shadyside universe.

In these stories, while “The Curse of Shadyside” may persist and potentially shape some aspects, I fervently wish that the Fear Street films will expand beyond slasher movies solely reliant on the curse’s lore. Instead of featuring a maniacal killer driven by an ancient evil, it can also portray a spurned lover seeking possession.
Previously, I wouldn’t dare entertain such thoughts, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in January, R.L. Stine revealed that three new movies are being created. If the upcoming release of Fear Street: Prom Queen on May 23rd proves to be a resounding hit, we may find ourselves discussing this topic once more.
