Building on the popularity of last year’s event in Seoul, EA’s FC Mobile recently held another charity match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea. This year’s Icons Match, a rematch featuring popular Icons and Heroes from the game, was organized in partnership with Nexon’s EA Sports FC Online, the PC version of the global FC 25 game.

This weekend, on September 14th, a special football match called ‘The Icons Rematch’ took place. It featured legendary players like Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, Rio Ferdinand, Carles Puyol, Ronaldinho, and Steven Gerrard. The event was organized by ‘Shoot for Love,’ a campaign dedicated to supporting children battling leukemia and cancer.

Shield United edged past FC Spear in the Icons Match with a narrow win

To settle the classic football debate of attack versus defense, a special match was held featuring retired professional players. Two teams faced off: FC Spear, made up of 11 top attackers, and Shield United, consisting of 11 of the world’s best defenders. They battled for 90 minutes to determine which approach reigns supreme.

I was so excited to see this match! Both teams were full of incredible players – we’re talking multiple Ballon d’Or and Champions League winners on each side. FC Spear, managed by the amazing Arsène Wenger, had a lineup that was just stacked with legends. Seriously, Drogba, Park, Henry, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Gerrard, Bale, Rooney, Hazard, Pires, and even Buffon were all playing! It was a dream team, honestly.

Shield United, led by coach Rafael Benítez, boasted a strong lineup including players like Ferdinand, Puyol, Campbell, Marchisio, Vidic, Carrick, Nesta, Maicon, Makélélé, Cole, and Casillas. Similar to the previous year, Shield United’s defense proved decisive, winning 2-1 against FC Spear. Rooney, Maicon, and Park Chu-young each scored a goal in the victory.

The match was a huge success, with a packed stadium and over a million viewers tuning in online. It was especially meaningful for me to see my favorite players from when I was growing up compete and showcase their skill.
