Two actors are being considered for a potential crossover with the CIA. Tom Ellis is starring in a new show initially planned as a spin-off of the FBI, but that spin-off has been canceled.
John Boyd and Shanel VanSanten, who play FBI agents Stuart Scola and Nina Chase on the show FBI, recently told Us Weekly they’d love to appear on the new CIA spinoff starring Tom Ellis and Nick Gehlfuss. Boyd expressed his interest, saying he’s hoping for a role, and mentioned that co-stars Missy Peregrym and Jeremy Sisto are already scheduled to cross over to the CIA series as their FBI characters, Maggie Bell and Jubal Valentine.
FBI Has a History of Crossovers
Now that her show, FBI: Most Wanted, has finished, VanSanten is free to appear on other shows within the FBI universe. She joked, ‘With Most Wanted done, I’m available to make a guest appearance – maybe as a neighbor popping in to say hello!’
Boyd expressed his eagerness to be on the show, saying he’s ready whenever they need him. He joked that he and his partner are available to play any role, even an undercover couple! He’s just waiting for his chance to participate.
FBI, created by Dick Wolf and Craig Turk, first aired on CBS in 2018 and quickly became popular with viewers who enjoy police dramas. The show features Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki as FBI Special Agents Maggie Bell and Omar Adom “OA” Zidan.
Since it first aired, FBI has led to several spin-off shows, like FBI: Most Wanted. Another spin-off, CIA, recently premiered on February 23rd.
What Is CIA All About — And Is It Worth Watching?
The new series CIA stars Nick Gehlfuss as FBI Special Agent William “Bill” Goodman, a by-the-book agent who is reluctantly teamed up with Tom Ellis, playing Colin Glass, a savvy CIA officer. The show follows this unlikely pair as they join a secret task force dedicated to stopping domestic terrorism in the New York City area.
Critics generally liked CIA when it first came out, but viewers are much more divided. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes gives the show a 63% ‘Fresh’ rating from critics, while audiences give it a lower 48% approval score. However, CIA has only aired two episodes so far, so it still has a chance to gain more fans.
In 2025, Ellis is planning a show similar in style to FBI, but it will mainly explore why different agencies often struggle to cooperate. He also described his character as someone who relies on trickery and dishonesty to achieve his goals, and who operates in a morally gray area.
New episodes of CIA premiere on Mondays on CBS.
