FBI Season 7 Twist Hints Isobel’s Future in Season 8

Warning: SPOILERS for FBI season 7, episode 22, “A New Day.”

As a die-hard fan of FBI, I must admit that Isobel Castille’s ending in season 7 wasn’t exactly a triumphant one. However, a significant revelation towards the end of the season might give us a clue about Isobel’s final destiny. In the season finale, Isobel found herself brushing with death not once, but twice. She utilized the explosion that claimed ADIC Reynolds to conceal her survival and operate covertly, only to find herself under more direct threat later on. With her heart stopping in the last moments of the season finale, we’re left guessing whether she met her end or managed to survive – answers we’ll have to wait for when FBI returns for another season.

The possible assassination of their Supervising Agent Chief (SAC) could significantly affect the FBI agents at 26 Fed. However, it’s important to recall that Isobel may choose to exit the series without being affected by the affliction she encountered. If she manages to survive and make a powerful return, there might still be a chance that FBI season 8 will ask viewers to bid farewell under less tragic circumstances. Interestingly, this possibility was hinted at in several episodes prior to the finale.

FBI Season 7 Introduces Isobel’s Husband

Phillip Never Appeared In Previous Episodes

In FBI season 7, I’m seen grappling with the challenge of striking a harmonious balance between my personal and professional life. This struggle eventually leads to an exciting opportunity for me. In episode 17 of that same season, I celebrate my 20-year milestone with the Bureau. The talented Tom Cavanagh, known for his role in The Flash, portrays my husband Phillip, who shares in this momentous occasion with me. Yet, a significant decision looms as we deliberate over whether I should accept my pension and retire from the FBI, given that anyone above 50 can do so after serving 20 years.

Throughout much of the episode, it seems as if Isobel is leaning towards retiring. However, the story revolves around Jack Grippo, a ruthless gang leader who Isobel has been pursuing for years since he was responsible for the death of her Quantico instructor. Despite Isobel technically apprehending her long-sought prey (with OA being the one to fire the fatal shot), the discovery that Jack’s daughter, Billie, has inherited and expanded his criminal empire thwarts Isobel’s retirement plans. With Grippo out of the picture, Isobel feels compelled to continue the pursuit as long as his legacy continues to thrive. Although Philip supports her decision at present, this might not hold true for much longer.

Isobel’s New Personal Life Could Lead To Her Finally Retiring From The FBI

She Was Already Putting Off Retirement

In a similar fashion as Scola’s many FBI associates, new characters not linked to a particular case of the week are rarely introduced without some sort of follow-up. This is particularly noticeable when casting a well-known actor like Cavanagh, since he doesn’t return for season 7. The fact that they cast a familiar face implies there might be plans for Philip to make an appearance in FBI season 8. This could mean he might appear during critical moments in his wife’s life, but it’s also possible that he and Isobel may need to revisit their discussions about the future.

It’s not likely that Isobel will pass away. Delaying an actor from signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) until fall could create difficulties for them in seeking new opportunities, as marketing themselves would be more challenging. However, Philip’s perspective on Isobel postponing her retirement might shift following her recent near-death experience. If they decide to part ways, Isobel Castille may depart from FBI prematurely instead. Although she might not retire instantly after escaping death, it could motivate her to catch up with Billie Grippo sooner, enabling a comfortable retirement by the end of the season.

What Isobel’s Possible Retirement Means For FBI’s Future

Jubal Could Be Stepping Into A New Role

Currently, one of the biggest mysteries from the final episode of season 7 of FBI is whether Isobel’s role in the series will continue in the future. If she retires, this could have significant implications for the show’s storyline that might not be as apparent if she were to die. In the finale, there were suspicions raised against Jubal, as he was considered a possible mole for Forefront. His supposed motive for this was the FBI’s past rejection of him for Castille’s position. Although Jubal didn’t anticipate much career advancement, Isobel retiring would make his promotion seem more feasible.

If Isobel perishes, Jubal’s circumstances remain unaltered. He continues to grapple with his complex past, and any favor he may have garnered by helping Isobel take down Keane might be disregarded amidst the turmoil of her demise. However, if Isobel manages to pull through and assist in apprehending her would-be assassin, Jubal could conclude the next season of FBI as the new Special Agent in Charge (SAC). The specifics of this transition, such as whether a current or new character takes over as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC), may spark various shifts in the established order.
