FBI season 7 is already seeing a cast change (and we haven’t even met the character!)
As a dedicated fan who has followed FBI since its inception, I must admit that the revolving door of new partners for Scola is starting to feel like a carousel ride without end. The arrival of Lisette Olivera as Syd Ortiz was a glimmer of hope for some fresh blood and an exciting change, but alas, it seems that fate has other plans.
In the upcoming season 7 of FBI, you won’t be seeing Lisette Olivera around for an extended period. Although she was introduced as a regular character, she is set to depart from the show soon.
During the debut of FBI’s seventh season, I found myself witnessing the departure of Tiffany Wallace from the series. Katherine Renee Kane’s character felt it was time for a fresh start following the events of the sixth season finale, which led her to abandon her field role and relocate to Georgia, closer to her sister.
For Scola, it seemed like a constant cycle of new partnerships, but we sensed that this pattern wouldn’t last much longer. In fact, Lisette Olivera was cast as the permanent character in the series right around the time Kane’s departure was made public.
When will Lisette Olivera be introduced in FBI season 7
According to TV Insider, Olivera makes her first appearance as Syd Ortiz on the episode airing Tuesday, November 12th. However, it appears her stay with us won’t be long-term anymore.
It seems that the choice of casting may not have been ideal. Although the creative team aimed for a younger, more vibrant actor, it appears that the character portrayed by Olivera doesn’t align with the authentic atmosphere of the real FBI environment as reported by Deadline. Essentially, the outlet claims that Olivera’s age might be too young to convey the necessary gravitas expected from an FBI agent.
In a few upcoming shows or segments, you’ll see Olivera. This prolongs her screen time as a temporary collaborator with Scola, although he will persist in searching for a long-term replacement.
Introducing a change could spice up the show a bit, as it tends to follow a predictable pattern with partners constantly teaming up. While this mirrors reality, it doesn’t provide the most thrilling viewing experience. We’re still yearning for Kane’s return. However, it seems like Tiffany’s departure wasn’t the best move creatively, as there didn’t appear to be a compelling reason for it.
FBI airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
