With ongoing problems surrounding the new CIA spinoff, it’s becoming clear that canceling FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International was a mistake. CBS started the 2025-2026 TV season with fewer shows, only bringing back the original FBI series. While they intended for the new CIA show to also launch in the fall, that plan hasn’t come to fruition.
Production delays have forced CBS and Wolf Entertainment to postpone the new series until 2026. Although Tom Ellis was quickly cast as Hart Hoxton, finding the rest of the actors proved more difficult than expected. Nick Gehlfuss, known from Chicago Med, eventually joined the cast as FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman. With Natalee Linez and Michael Michelle completing the main cast as CIA members, filming finally began in New York, but has now been put on hold.
CIA Continues To Be Plagued By Cast Issues

After several weeks of trouble-free filming, there’s been a change with the upcoming CBS series CIA. Michele, known for roles in ER and Homicide: Life on the Street, was cast as the head of the CIA’s New York office, but has now left the show. Details about why the actor departed mid-production, with the premiere still months away, haven’t been released.
Neither Michele nor Wolf Entertainment or CBS has made any public statement about the situation. The sudden departure of the cast member remains a mystery, and it’s currently unknown if the role will be filled by someone else. However, work on CIA appears to be moving forward, and the network doesn’t plan to postpone the show’s release any further.
CBS Should Have Established CIA Before Canceling FBI: Most Wanted & FBI: International

Despite being popular, CBS canceled FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International in 2025. A new show called CIA is intended to fill the gap left by these cancellations, but that’s a challenge given how many fans the canceled shows had. There were early plans to test the new show with a special episode earlier in the year, but those plans were dropped, which now seems like a warning sign.
CBS is now limited to just one show from the FBI series, despite having the opportunity to continue both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. The cancellation happened while details about a potential CIA spin-off were still being discussed. Allowing the canceled shows to finish their stories properly and giving the new series more development time would have been beneficial.
Reviving the FBI series is proving difficult because CBS and Wolf Entertainment have to launch CIA before it’s fully prepared. This makes the show more likely to struggle, as it hasn’t had sufficient time for development and refinement of its stories.
