s1mple is back in CS2 again, this time for FaZe Clan ahead of the Austin Major.
In a new development for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the gaming legend Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev is set to reappear, joining FaZe Clan after the recent suspension of Helvijs “broky” Saukants.
With the deadline for finalizing the BLAST Austin Major roster just passed, it’s obvious that FaZe Clan would soon make their selection. In the end, they chose a 27-year-old Ukrainian player on loan, leaving him with minimal time to get ready before IEM Dallas and the Austin Major.
s1mple joins FaZe on loan after second CS2 hiatus
FaZe Clan shared on Twitter on May 5th that s1mple, often referred to as the CSGOAT (Greatest of All Time in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), had joined their team temporarily. The post stated, “The CSGOAT is back and he’s now fighting with us!” It was also mentioned that s1mple would be filling in for Natus Vincere on a loan basis for the IEM Dallas and Austin Major tournaments.
Apart from a showmatch in January, s1mple was last spotted playing for the Falcons team during the tail end of 2024 at ESL Challenger Katowice and the Shanghai Major RMR. These events were disappointing for the Falcons as a whole, with s1mple appearing to be off his game, but the Ukrainian standout still managed to deliver some impressive performances.
For FaZe Clan, it’s a significant shift, as they’ve faced a challenging season in 2025. The third-place finish at PGL Bucharest was their only success, while they fell short of the playoffs at IEM Melbourne, BLAST Open Spring, and IEM Katowice. This change is seen as a necessary step to improve their performance.
Regardless of Broky’s poor performance in 2025, S1mple has some big shoes to fill, and since Falcons performed well towards the end of 2024, it’s unlikely that he is a one-man solution to FaZe Clan’s issues, which go beyond the game server.
FaZe Clan’s roster for IEM Dallas and the Austin Major is as follows:
- Håvard “rain” Nygaard
- Finn “karrigan” Andersen
- David “frozen” Čerňanský
- Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski
- Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev (loan)
