FatMan Scoop's cause of death revealed after DJ and hypeman collapsed during performance

As I reflect on the life and passing of FatMan Scoop, it is with a heavy heart that I share my thoughts. This man was a beacon of energy, a master of the mic, and an embodiment of positivity. His music made us dance, his laughter filled our hearts, and his spirit touched countless lives.

New information has surfaced regarding the demise of FatMan Scoop, approximately a month following an incident where the Grammy-winning disc jockey and hype man suffered a collapse on stage at a Connecticut concert.

On Tuesday, The Times was informed by the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner’s office that Isaac Freeman, better known as “The ‘Be Faithful’ performer,” passed away from heart disease, specifically hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, the manner of death for FatMan Scoop was classified as natural causes.

Hypertensive heart disease refers to a chronic condition that occurs over time in individuals with consistently high blood pressure, as stated by the Cleveland Clinic. On the other hand, atherosclerosis is a condition where plaque accumulates within and on the walls of arteries, leading to their hardening and narrowing, thus restricting blood flow to vital organs and tissues, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.

Freeman passed away on August 30th, as confirmed by his family via an Instagram post last month. The world has lost a luminous spirit, a shining performer both onstage and off, according to the message. He was 56 years old.

Before his passing, the musician was captured in social media videos collapsing during a concert in Hamden, Connecticut. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett stated on Facebook that the rapper suffered a medical incident on stage and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The following day, Garrett shared the family’s statement, commemorating Scoop’s legacy as demonstrated by the multitude of fans who attended what would be his final performance.

Heartfelt tributes, such as those from Missy Elliott and Chuck D, flooded in quickly. Sharon Elkabas, representing Freeman, expressed her disbelief, saying “It’s hard to accept that he’s gone.

The grief over FatMan Scoop’s passing lingered through the weeks that followed. In early September, Hamden town held a candlelight vigil for the rapper at Town Center Park, where he had performed his last concert. On September 12th, the Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he was born, honored FatMan Scoop’s life.

In August, his family stated that his music moved us to dance and filled our lives with optimism. His happiness was contagious, and the kindness he shared widely will be profoundly missed yet always remembered.
