The biographical movie about Robbie Williams, titled “Better Man,” featuring him as a CGI monkey, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Under the guidance of Michael Gracey, who was also behind “The Greatest Showman”, this movie delves into the life story of Robbie. It spans from his early years, triumphs with Take That, strained relationship with Gary Barlow, his peak as a solo artist marked by drug use and chart-topping hits, to his legendary performance at Knebworth that set a new record.
In this scenario, Robbie narrates in his own voice, while Alison Steadman from the show “Gavin & Stacey” takes on the role of his grandmother, and Steve Pemberton from “Inside No 9” portrays his father.
Sadly, the movie didn’t perform well at the box office, earning approximately $22.5 million globally despite an estimated production cost of around $110 million.
Could Amazon’s streaming service subscribers breathe new life into it again?

Without a doubt, this movie is highly suggested. It boasts an impressive 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on more than 200 reviews, and the average viewer score is even more remarkable at 90%.
Digital Spy highly praised the film, calling it an exceptional and imaginative take on a conventional rise-and-fall biopic, and one of the top films of the year.

In simpler terms, The Atlantic described it as a meticulously crafted film about a musician that stands out for its thoughtfulness, while Variety praised it by saying that the execution is incredibly impressive – comparable to the level of creativity displayed by the Wachowskis in their complex montages where the cuts are nearly invisible.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Balancing the ridiculous and the insightful, this vibrant, one-of-a-kind biopic had me hooked from the start. Frankly, I couldn’t believe it was made at all!” Slant magazine commented, while Mark Kermode added, “It’s long, indulgent, and downright foolish, but surprisingly, it’s more enjoyable and engaging than I ever thought possible.
Better Man is available to stream now for Prime Video subscribers.
The latest print edition of Digital Spy is out now! You can purchase the “Oasis – Live in ’25” issue from newsstands or online, both for only £8.99.
