‘Fantastic Four’ trailer teases Marvel’s First Family dynamics and Galactus
Even superheroes make time for family dinners.
Marvel Studios unveiled, on Tuesday, a trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” providing fans with their initial glimpse of Marvel’s original family within the MCU and the 1960s-style futuristic universe that they inhabit.
Under the guidance of director Matt Shakman, the movie features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn taking on the role of Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach stepping into Ben Grimm’s character. As hinted in the preview, this tight-knit group acquired their superpowers during their initial space voyage together.

Richards, more commonly known as Mister Fantastic, possesses an extraordinary ability to elongate his body. His companion, Sue, often referred to as the Invisible Woman, has the power of invisibility and can control force fields. Sue’s brother, Johnny, who can envelop himself in flames, is famously called the Human Torch. Grimm, Richards’ close friend, has undergone a transformation into the Thing, a rock-like being. In “First Steps,” the Fantastic Four will confront Galactus, a cosmic entity that consumes planets, along with the Silver Surfer, portrayed by Ralph Ineson and Julia Garner. John Malkovich assumes an enigmatic character in this film.
As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the various incarnations of the Fantastic Four that have graced our movie screens. Before “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” officially welcomed this iconic superhero team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we had glimpses of these characters in “Fantastic Four” (2005), “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” (2007) and a reboot titled “Fantastic Four” in 2015. Interestingly enough, Chris Evans, known for his role as Captain America, stepped back into his shoes as Johnny Storm from the initial two Fantastic Four movies last year in “Deadpool & Wolverine”. In 2022, a version of Mister Fantastic, portrayed by John Krasinski, made an appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The movie will not only mark its debut but also kickstart Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has undergone a transformation to feature the infamous villain Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., from Iron Man. The film, titled “The Fantastic Four: Initial Journeys,” is set to premiere in theaters on July 25th.
