‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’: New Official Images
In addition, Marvel has unveiled a series of high-definition photos from the upcoming film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” along with its first trailer.
Each individual on the quartet – Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby portraying Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing – received a separate photo. Additionally, there’s a collective picture of all four dressed in their respective costumes. Interestingly, Pascal’s appearance in the team doesn’t align perfectly with the other three team members for an unspecified reason.

As a devoted cinephile, I’d put it this way: “For me, First Steps marks the first Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure for the Fantastic Four, and it’s the debut by Marvel Studios. Earlier attempts (the ones that managed to hit the big screen) were produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox, before Disney took over. Fox actually released two different versions of the team, one in the mid-2000s and another in 2015.
The initial film, helmed by Tim Story, was quite true-to-life according to the classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby comics, but with the storyline adjusted to the contemporary era. On the other hand, the second movie, led by Josh Trank, presented a more somber and realistic interpretation of the material, borrowing certain aspects from the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic series that was published between 2004 and 2009.
Here is the official synopsis for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps:
In a lively, 1960s-style, futuristic environment, Marvel Studios presents “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” where we meet Marvel’s original family consisting of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). They confront their toughest challenge yet, juggling their heroic duties with the powerful ties of family. They are tasked with protecting Earth from a ravenous cosmic deity named Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious emissary, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). The threat becomes even more personal when Galactus decides to consume not just the planet but everyone on it.
The upcoming movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to premiere in cinemas on July 25. You can check out the trailer for the film right here.
The Most Anticipated Movies of 2025
Wolf Man
Title Release: January 17
In the past, Universal’s attempt at rebooting “The Wolf Man” (or “The Wolfman”) was a visually appealing but sleep-inducing endeavor. (My apologies to Rick Baker for your commendable effort.) However, this new version has a unique advantage – Leigh Whannell, the gifted writer and director who demonstrated with his 2020 adaptation of “The Invisible Man” that he is adept at blending classic Universal monsters with contemporary fears and motifs.
Leigh Whannell’s interpretation of “The Wolf Man” is played by Christopher Abbott, who undergoes a transformation following an encounter with a lycanthrope in the woods near his old family home. Given the sophistication that Whannell brought to “The Invisible Man”, it’s safe to assume that there’s much more depth to this story than the simple premise might suggest.
Dog Man
Title Date: January 31
If you’re a parent with elementary school-aged children, you’re probably familiar with the beloved graphic novel series, “Dog Man,” penned by the author of “Captain Underpants,” Dav Pilkey. This series combines elements of science-fiction and superhero stories with humor that appeals to kids (and their not-so-grown-up dads, like myself). Surprisingly, there’s a lot of tender moments in these books as well.
Capturing the unique tone of “Dog Man” could be challenging, but the trailer for the upcoming film seems to have done just that, according to my two kids (and their father who hasn’t grown up much).
Captain America: Brave New World
2025 promises to be a more action-packed year for Marvel compared to 2024, which saw only one film release (“Deadpool & Wolverine”). In this upcoming year, they have lined up three titles, among them is “Captain America: Brave New World,” the fourth movie in Phase Five of their cinematic universe. This film is particularly exciting because it marks Anthony Mackie’s debut as the new Captain America. Moreover, it brings back several significant characters from “The Incredible Hulk” after a 15-year hiatus, including Betty Ross and The Leader. Lastly, it presents an opportunity to witness Harrison Ford portraying the enraged titan, the Red Hulk.
Mickey 17
Warner Bros. has repeatedly adjusted the release date for Bong Joon-ho’s anticipated sequel to “Parasite,” originally slated for March last year, then January, then April, and now set for March this year. We’ll have to see if this date sticks. Despite Warner Bros.’ continuous rescheduling, I can hardly contain my excitement to witness how Bong will utilize his Oscar Best Picture winner windfall, with Robert Pattinson portraying a man in a dystopian future who consents to be endlessly cloned upon death, only to encounter one of his replicas.
Warner Bros. has been changing the release date for Bong Joon-ho’s new movie multiple times, originally planned for March last year, then January, then April, and now March this year. I’m eagerly waiting to see how Bong uses his Oscar Best Picture winnings in this new film, where Robert Pattinson plays a man who gets cloned after death, eventually meeting one of his copies.
Black Bag
Title Date: March 14
Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh, previously collaborating with screenwriter David Koepp on “Kimi” (2022) and “Presence” (January 2023), brings us “Black Bag”. Starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as a duo of married spies. Their bond is tested when Blanchett’s character is falsely accused of treason, creating an intriguing plot reminiscent of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, but with a more polished, rugged feel. We can’t wait to watch!
Black Bag
Release Date: March 14
Director Steven Soderbergh reunites with screenwriter David Koepp (after “Kimi” in 2022 and “Presence” in January this year) for the gripping spy thriller, “Black Bag”. Featuring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender as a pair of spouses, their bond is put to the test when Blanchett’s character faces false allegations of treason. With a hint of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, but with a more sophisticated and gritty edge, this film has us hooked!
Sinners
In the span between “Creed” and “Black Panther,” Ryan Coogler has directed some outstanding franchise films of the century. It’s refreshing to see him venture into something fresh. Interestingly, “Sinners” reunites him with Michael B. Jordan, who has been featured in all four of Coogler’s projects so far. While the specifics of the storyline are still under wraps, this upcoming project, which Warner Bros. secured after a competitive studio bidding war, is said to be a period horror film that delves into vampire lore.
The Accountant 2
In just about a decade, the much-loved accountant-turned-hitman who has been keeping us entertained on TNT every Wednesday night returns! That’s right, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2016 action thriller “The Accountant,” starring Ben Affleck, Gavin O’Connor, Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson is here! While the specifics of the plot might not matter too much, we’re confident that audiences will find it highly engaging. (Get ready for some clever accounting humor!)
Lilo & Stitch
New Release Date: May 23
Apologies if you’ve grown tired of Disney’s continuous string of live-action adaptations, considering some of the lackluster ones we’ve seen recently. However, Lilo & Stitch might buck this trend. Firstly, the story – an alien misfit lands on Earth and befriends a solitary Hawaiian girl – appears more suitable for live action compared to, let’s say, retelling a Shakespearean play featuring talking jungle creatures. Secondly, Dean Fleischer Camp, who previously directed Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, helms this remake. Here’s hoping he infuses fresh ideas into the story. Lastly, who doesn’t adore Stitch? He certainly is a mischievous character!
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Mission: Impossible 8 – The Final Reckoning (Release Date: May 23)
Tom Cruise is back to save the world once more, potentially reigniting the summer movie season. In this eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible series (originally billed as the second part of the seventh), Ethan Hunt must thwart a global disaster while executing awe-inspiring stunts. The title implies this could be the end for this successful franchise, but with the hint that Cruise is 62, it’s hard not to speculate that if this film becomes another billion-dollar hit, we might just see a change of heart regarding “The Final Reckoning”!
Karate Kid: Legends
Title Date: May 30
There’s a chance this new installment might give me a surprise kick. When a Karate Kid movie disappoints, it truly falls flat. However, when they excel, they shine brightly. The prospect of resurrecting the film franchise with a sequel featuring Ralph Macchio as the new Miyagi and Jackie Chan reprising his character from the 2010 Karate Kid remake is intriguing. Will Karate Kid: Legends reach the heights of the original film or the early seasons of Cobra Kai? If they strive for it in the name of love, there’s a possibility. (The action in the trailer certainly looks promising.)
28 Years Later
Title Date: June 20
The creative minds behind the film “28 Days Later,” including director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, are returning with a new installment titled “28 Years Later.” Despite arriving earlier than expected (the original movie premiered in theaters 23 years ago), given the current state of the world, it’s understandable. The lead actors for this sequel will be Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes. It is rumored that Cillian Murphy, the original franchise protagonist, will make an appearance at some point as well. Additionally, prepare yourself for more fast-moving zombies! I can hardly wait to be scared senseless all over again.
F1
Release Date: June 27
I must admit I don’t know much about F1 racing. However, I do recognize that this F1 movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski, whose intense style of action sequences significantly improved upon the original in the highly acclaimed film, Top Gun: Maverick. Therefore, a racing movie under Kosinski’s direction (with Brad Pitt portraying a retired driver who takes on the role of mentor to a promising newcomer) seems like it could be quite successful.
This version maintains the original meaning and style while aiming for clarity and ease of reading.
Superman
Title Date: July 11
If you had doubts about James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, creating an authentic Superman film, the latest trailer might have won you over. David Corenswet takes on the role of the new Superman, facing off against a new Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and yearning for a new Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). While we’ve seen these characters in movies before, this time around, we haven’t seen a movie featuring Krypto, and that super dog certainly seems set to steal the show.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
In July, the world of superhero movies is set to get even more exciting with both Marvel and DC unveiling new adaptations of their iconic franchises. Two weeks after the release of “Superman”, Marvel will introduce the first MCU version of the Fantastic Four. This film stars Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. Notably, “First Steps” also deviates from the norm for Marvel, as it is partially set in a 1960s-inspired alternative timeline reminiscent of the one that kickstarted the Fantastic Four in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s original comics.
Naked Gun
Title Release: August 1
To me, no comedy franchise holds more reverence than “The Naked Gun,” the side-splitting police satires from David Zucker and the ZAZ team, featuring Leslie Nielsen as the hapless detective Frank Drebin. The thought of a new iteration without those individuals seems ill-advised – until you learn that this fresh take is helmed by Akiva Schaffer of Lonely Island fame (and director of “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”) and stars Liam Neeson as the latest Drebin. Suddenly, it appears to be a splendid idea.
Wicked: For Good
The release date for the second half of the “Wicked” Broadway show is November 21st. Although it lacks some of the strong songs that were present in the first act, such as “Popular” and “Defying Gravity”, the curiosity surrounding how Elphaba, Glinda, and the Wizard of Oz’s story unfolds after the success of the first movie makes it hard to resist watching.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Title Date: December 19
Indeed, the much-anticipated continuation of ‘Avatar’ is here! The third installment in what could potentially become a series ranging from five to forty films will transport us to another part of Pandora and introduce a new tribe of Na’vi, known as the “Ash People.” (One can only hope Bruce Campbell provides motion capture for one of these characters.) Get ready for James Cameron to deliver breathtaking visuals, thrilling action, captivating characters, and, let’s face it, some rather eccentric font choices once again.
Marty Supreme
Title Release Dates:
* Benny Safdie’s solo directorial debut, “The Smashing Machine,” featuring Dwayne Johnson as MMA legend Mark Kerr, is set for release in 2025. This movie tells the biopic story of a renowned MMA fighter.
* Meanwhile, Josh Safdie’s film, titled “Marty Supreme,” will also hit theaters in 2025. In this movie, Timothée Chalamet plays a champion ping pong player. This marks another sports-themed project from the Safdie brothers, making 2025 an exciting year for sports and cinema enthusiasts alike.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Title Announcement: The release date for the third Benoit Blanc mystery on Netflix has yet to be disclosed, but it’s set to debut sometime this year if you’re sharp-eyed enough to spot it. Joining the ensemble of suspects are stars like Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis, and Glenn Close. At present, the main plot details remain shrouded in mystery, although the title hints at a classic U2 song from their “Pop” album. Could this time feature a murder taking place in a disco?
Frankenstein
As a film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” which is set to premiere on Netflix. Del Toro has been passionately pursuing this project for over a decade, and it’s exciting that Netflix brought his vision to life. In this rendition, Oscar Isaac takes on the role of Dr. Frankenstein, while Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in “Euphoria” and “Saltburn,” brings the monster to life. This promises to be a chilling and entertaining take on the classic horror tale.
