The Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps growing with new movies and shows available on Disney+. The recent film, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, directed by Matt Shakman, topped the box office charts. While some early artwork revealed detailed designs of Galactus’s massive ship, I was disappointed we didn’t see more of it in the final movie.
For years, Marvel fans have eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Disney bought 20th Century Fox, it made this possible, and also paved the way for the introduction of the powerful villain, Galactus. Artist Thomas du Crest recently shared a detailed look at Galactus’s ship on Instagram, which clearly draws inspiration from the Death Star. You can see the concept art below.

That was incredible! Seeing Galactus-both in space and later walking through New York City on Earth-828-in *First Steps* was truly amazing. While his ship didn’t appear much on screen, its design was still fantastic. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more of it in any deleted scenes-one can dream!
Beyond his work on *The Fantastic Four*, Thomas du Crest has contributed to the visual style of many popular blockbuster films, including *Avengers: Endgame*, *Alien: Romulus*, *Beetlejuice Beetlejuice*, and *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, among others. Though he’s accustomed to seeing designs cut from the final films, fans often express strong regret when they get a glimpse of unused concepts.

Disney+ offers streaming access to Marvel Cinematic Universe content. You can start a subscription with ads for as little as $9.99 per month. For an ad-free experience, it’s $15.99 monthly, or you can save 16% by paying $159.99 annually. See the deal here.
In *Fantastic Four: First Steps*, the central conflict revolves around Galactus, a massive villain who plans to destroy Earth. Julia Garner plays the Silver Surfer, who warns that Galactus will consume the planet unless Reed and Sue Richards make a terrible choice: sacrificing their baby, Franklin, to satisfy Galactus’s endless hunger for worlds.
The story presented a difficult choice for the Fantastic Four: was it right to save a planet if it meant losing one young life? Ultimately, they decided against making that sacrifice, choosing instead to fight the villain and banish him through a portal. He wasn’t able to escape in his ship, leaving him stranded.

With Galactus having such a rich history in Marvel comics, many fans are hoping he’ll appear in future movies. If he does, it could also give filmmakers a chance to include his massive, planet-consuming ship, which is similar to the Death Star.
You can now watch *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* in movie theaters or download it digitally. It’s part of the 2025 film lineup, and while it’s unclear if there will be extra features, I’m hoping we get to see more of Galactus in action.
